I haven't heard anything. I haven't been around in a bit, but saw this topic at the top and thought I'd take a moment to comment. A dear friend of mine has been feeding her kitty Arjuna some canned food for a couple of months since Xmas (I can't remember the brand exactly, but she buys him it as a treat/present every year). She noticed some strange 'gunk' coming from his eyes since late December and only recently discovered that it's dried blood. Bleeding eyes is a sign of renal failure in cats... and Arj's food was on the list of recalled products. She has an appointment made with the Vet for Wednesday. With all of the trauma in this woman's life lately the last thing she needs is for her beloved cat to die from tainted food--food that was meant to be a Christmas present and treat. :( I'm hoping and praying he'll be okay... I'm worried that the damage will have already been done.... irreversible kidney damage.
The unofficial death count (petconnection.com) is 1541. Menu Foods is by far one of the most despicable, greedy companies of the 21st century. Apparently they knew about this for a month before they decided to do a recall.
The saddest part is how easily this could have been avoided.

I have only recently switched my cat to Wellness.
I have written an email to Wellness asking about a sale to Iams and will report back when they respond.
I am happy with Wellness based on what I read before switching her over. But I will not feed her a product that is produced by or affiliated with Iams.
I am interested in switching to Newman's Own Organic cat food. From what I've read about good foods, Newman's Own is just as good as the others and IT'S ORGANIC!!!!
My only concern about Wellness was that it wasn't organic. But this issue may soon be resolved as well.

My kitties have eaten Wellness their whole lives, as have all my mom's (except one who has allergies and so has to eat some stuff that you can only buy from the vet for like a million dollars). They all love it, especially the Salmon flavor. I haven't heard anything about Iams buying them. I really hope that's not true!
Talking to my mom yesterday we were saying that this whole recall really puts into perspective why we spend the extra $$ to buy Wellness... If you can afford it, I think it's really worth it! I'm so sorry for all the owners who are going through the loss of their beloved animals because of this contamination... :'(

hey Ungreen, Another thing I want to point out is that even though the food may cost more, by feeding a premium diet that may cost more, you can actually save money, not spend more on your pet. A premium diet along with no over-vaccination will help build up a healthier immune system and overall better general health for your pet. That being said, you will not have to spend as much on vet visits. I know I have saved so much on vet visits compared to when I first had dogs eating "garbage food", getting yearly vaccines and was always having to treat all the problems that kept creeping up in them. In the long run, by feeding a healthy premium diet, you will save money and add years to your pet's life! :)

Update on Old Mother Hubbard/Wellness purchase by Iams.
This is the email I received from them today.
Quote:
Thank you for taking the time to write about Wellness products.
We have not been bought or sold by anyone. Our CEO is currently Jim Scott Jr., and it is still business as usual here at Old Mother Hubbard. Hope this helps quell some of the rumors that you have heard.
We do not have any affiliation with Iams. We are not for sale or planning to be sold.

Great!! I'm glad it was just a nasty rumour. I would hate to see a great company like Old Mother Hubbard be in bed with the devil.
