NVR: cats and caps

It's been a long time since I posted an NVR. But as my cat (formerly named Bunny, now renamed the more masculine and appropriate Hunter S. Thompcat) is currently playing like the crazy psychotic nutcase that he is, I feel compelled to ask you a question...

Does your cat also love WATER BOTTLE CAPS?!

This is my cat's FAVORITE toy. He bats it around on the hardwood floor like it's a hockey puck (of course, this usually occurs at about 5am in the morning when my dog and I are trying to sleep). Then he carries it around in his mouth (sometimes in such a way that it looks like there is a big white circle in his mouth), walks around like this, let's it drop out of his mouth (as if it wasn't he who dropped it--it just magically appeared there), and then proceeds to shuffle it around the house some more, bouncing it off the walls, etc., until it gets stuck under a closed door or the couch. It makes quite the racket.

...You know, he's giving me the evil eye right now--I think he knows I'm writing about him.

BTW, he has plenty of other toys. But nothing quite so exciting to him as a simple bottle cap. It's about the only low maintenance thing about him.  ;D

My dog LOVES playing with water bottles. She trots around the house with them in her mouth to show that she can reach the counter and get things herself lol. She also has a noisy favorite, picking up her dog dishes, shoving them at someone, and if you don't take it from her mouth, put water in it, or put it away, she happily drops it at your feet barking and wagging her tail. It is a metal dish and makes a lot of racket.

Oh yah thats her

I don't have water bottle caps, but he does have cat solidarity about avoiding toys.  My cat is naturally distainful of any official cat toy and would rather shred paper or play with hair bands.

Just like the kids who prefer the boxes the toys come in to the toys themselves.

I second the suggestion that they favor it becaseu its trash.

my dogs favorite toy is (aside from chewing on my camera, jeans and guitar) the trash...They think its a lot of fun to knock over and eat the contens...They don't seem to understand that this is an undesirable behavior. I use a gentle training approach where I take things away that they are not supposed to have and politely request that they leave it alone because it makes me feel sad when they destroy things...they haven't quite figured it out yet, but they will get there.... ;)
So yesterday i walked into the kitchen to find all four of them at the trash bag, eating the spoiled pasta dish that was in there from the refrigerator. And I started to complain at them and theyy all looked up like they were puzzled as to why I might be upset. They all look at me like I'm weird and then scooted over to make room for  me as if to say..."its okay, Mom, don't get upset- there's room for you too!" and I just walked away...and then they could tell that they were upsetting me and left the trash alone (for a while)

hahh...nothing quite like reasoning with your dog...

Um, but my cats did like to play with caps too....One of my cats loved paintbrushes!

One of my cat has a serious fetish with milk rings! He will even "fetch" them if you have enough patience with him! It is so cute! I wish I had a cam corder to show everyone he does it!

I know another cat that likes those as well.  They're very bouncy and stuff.

Oh, yes, I'd forgotten about this. My beloved Saul adored playing with water bottle caps or any other plastic cap. I think he liked how they "skate" on terrazo, and the noise they made when they slid.

His favourite things were ballpoints that he could bat off the table, and then look over the edge of the table with such satisfaction at it on the floor, as if to say, "There! Another job well done!" Or sitting on the book I was trying to study from: "You can turn the page when I'm ready and not before!"

Cats! Gotta love 'em! ;)

I second the hair bands and bottle caps.  Also cardboard boxes, shredding newspaper.

Do my feet count because both of them sure like to do the kamakasi attack/bite and then run away.

The only thing they get in trouble for is intentionally knocking over their water to "moonwalk" in it.

ROFL! My kitty girl does that sometimes too--sometimes I think that she thinks the water dish is her personal pool!  :D

They cats my mom looks after do this with my homework!!!  When I was studying something like math, they would sit ON the book, bat the pencil OFF the table, and playfully wag their tail.

One of my kitties does this. If I'm lying down and having my laptop on my chest/belly, she'll come up in between, do her little where-should-I-sit dance, and lie down. Over the keyboard, in front of the screen. I figured it was probably the warmth of the CPU, but then again she's a cat and she's probably just messing with me  :)

My cats love anything circular. Rubber bands, hair ties, milk cap rings, bottle caps, coins...anything round. And if something is lying on the edge of a table/counter/chair arm, watch out! It will get immediately smacked off with great force. Sometimes I see my pens flying across the room.  ;D And if I put it back, 2 seconds later it gets smacked away again. Almost like they're mad that the pen was there in the first place. Hilarious! :D

My cat loves water bottle caps too!  But his favorite toy is this neon pink mouse.  We have bought at least five of them because when they begin to unravel he does not like them anymore.  He carries it around with him all the time and he also likes to play fetch with it like a dog.  I think he thinks that the little toy mouse is his baby.  I am worried that my petstore will stop selling them and break poor little Roman's heart ::)

My dog Sable plays with rocks. She brings them up on the deck and leaves her "favorite rock of the day" at the door all the time. If I throw it all the way out into the woods.......even in the dead of night and pitch black darkness.......she'll spend as along as it takes her to find that very same rock...and then she brings it back!!!!

I knew a pup that could do that... on Pebble beach no less... throw a stone and she'd bring the exact same one back...

All this talk about small plastic objects being carried around in cats' mouths gives me the willies... they could CHOKE!! eeek (can you tell I'm a mom with small kids  :D)
