NVR - caring for salt water fishies

my mom and i went to the pet store last night and i saw the cutest clown fish and wanted to get one or two but then my mom pointed out they are salt water fish. i have googled and googled and still can't find out how to take care of them (if i decide to get some), very site i've gone to has said something along the lines of "clownfish are not for beginners" and that was about it.

does anybody know anything about caring for salt water fish? any information would be greatly appreciated

I think the owner should give you directions don't they?

All I know is that it's HARD!  Go to a pet store, they will give you all the info!

My boyfriend and I have a 55 gallon salt water tank.  It's takes a lot of work to get the salinity right, and keep it algae free.  Not that you will need to get a 55 gallon tank.  Start with a small one.  Also go to an aquarium store, they seem to be more informed there, and not a regular pet store that sell fish.  Also be sure to ask about what types of fish are compatable.  My bpyfriend has seahorses in the tank and because they are so slow and docile they are out competed by many other types of fish.  I remember I was not allowed to get clown fish for the tank because of the sea horses.  Anyway sorry to drag on.  I'd recommend getting a small starter tank and a couple of good info books.  Aquarium employees are also very helpful with newbies.  Good Luck!

thanks, biodancer.

i was gonna say... pet store employees dont really seem to know enough  for me. atleast the employees on the floor, not the ones taking care of the fish that i can never seem to speak to.
