Let's kill 1 species of animals to raise other animals: to kill!

The dogs woke me up early so I was just reading the news here while they are outside and came across this:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070517/ap_on_re_us/prairie_dogs_1

The way I look at it is that Ranchers want to kill the prairie dogs so that they can keep raising more cattle to kill.  >:( I really like that they want the US Forest Service to do it for them! For anyone here that pays US federal taxes, that's our money....being used to poison the prairie dogs and any other unfortunate animal that comes into contact with the poison: a very slow, brutal and painful death.  :-\

"Sixteen families that run cattle in the 20-mile-long basin depend on the grass that grows on their land and the pastures they lease on the adjacent federal Buffalo Gap National Grasslands."
Great that the government "leases" our Federal Park Lands to cattle ranchers...huh?! And these ranchers want our government to kill animals for them on their private property. >:(

I thought the US Forest Service was set up to manage and protect our lands, not to kill animals for private business....cattle ranching! I do support Defender's of Wildlife and I hope they take the US Government to court over this subject. They have before, and have had some good results. Not always, but they do a good job trying to protect our wildlife. The magazine I get from them always has lots of critical reports on the current Bush Administration, along with the Dept. of the Interior, and how they have tried to turn back almost every wildlife law since they have been in power. All the people in charge of protecting our forests, and wildlife are related to and come from a big business background (logging industry, agribusiness, factory farming animal prison camps, etc). If can, please support them (Defender's that is...not the "Dubya" administration) >:(

Almost without exception, ranchers in the western US have a lease to graze cattle on public land.  Sometimes it is a park, but a lot of other unused tracts are leased as well.  Some lease for a month or a season, or by the year.  What happens in ordinary practice is that the cattle go into these areas, the deer and antelope and other wild critters come out and into private land.  Once there, they eat because they have to.  Deer bucks will often rub their antlers on trees to a point where they destroy the tree.  They ruin gardens and fields.  This is not their fault, they are trying to survive because domestic cattle have to be fat and apparently they need to be murdered too.  What you will also see when this is going on are ranchers marking out which bucks to shoot to control the population, because they have been chased out of where they below in favor of cattle.  This is all just so stupid and terrible.  Deer CAN and DO control their own populations based on the availabilty of food sources.  Last year, a wet year and our home away from home in Wyoming (a lovely quiet rural valley) was full of does with twins, and in fact, most of them had twins.  This year, it is dry and there is only one set of twins from a doe who always has 2, but most of the does have one and many have none this year.

Just another really stupid, I have my head up my butt moment from ranchers and land management officials.  It is pretty hard to think clearly when one's head is protracted affixed in one's rectum.

I have believed for years that the human race needs a predator to pray on it!  What keeps our population in check, if humans didn't breed so much, there would be no reason to kill the prairy dogs, and wolvs and other animals.

Please, if you have children, I mean no offense, this comment is not meant to the people here, but the people out there who have 4 or more children.  Today's day and age there really is no reason to have more than 0 to 2 children.

I just believe that the only true solution is to elimiate the probem, to reduce the human population.  But nobody sees it that way for some reason.
