Strawberries 'n' Cream Oatie Hearts

What you need:

1 1/2 cups dried oats
1/2 cup puffed brown rice cereal, milled into fine powder
1/4 cup chopped almonds
6 ounces vanilla soy yogurt
3/4 cup diced strawberry, about 8 medium-sized

What you do:

1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mill the cereal into a fine powder and chop the almonds. Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl.
2) Transfer to mold or form into balls and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Allow them to cool completely before eating or they will fall apart.
They are really good right from the oven, but if you wish to store them I would use a fridge or freezer because of the yogurt.
Source of recipe: I came up with this when I was trying to figure out what to do with a bunch of strawberries I had on hand, but any fruit would work. These make a great grab-and-go item for breakfast or as a sweet, healthy snack. Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I have to say that I thought this was a simple yet rather brilliant recipe. I tried it and found them to be a bit bland, but I'll just add a bit of maple syrup next time.

My kiddos on the other hand weren't too impressed, but they are a very tough crowd. I'm thinking of changing this recipe up a bit - replacing the strawberries with mashed bananas, and adding some stevia and/or maple syrup. We'll see if that pleases my tough critics!
