Simple and Yummy Textured Soy Protein Burgers

What you need:

3/4 cup boiling water
3/4 cup textured soy protein granules
2 teaspoons arrowroot
1/4 cup oats
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
oil, as needed for frying
4 sandwich buns, warmed

What you do:

1. Mix boiling water into textured soy protein granules and let sit for 15 minutes. In another bowl, mix together arrowroot, oats, onion powder, garlic powder, flour, soy sauce, ketchup, salt, and pepper.
2. Once textured soy protein is rehydrated, add oat mixture to textured soy protein and mix well. Cover and place in the fridge for 15 minutes to allow textured soy protein to firm up.
3. Remove textured soy protein and divide into quarters. With your hands, roll each quarter into a ball and flatten into a patty shape.
4. Lightly brush each side with oil and add some oil to a large skillet. Heat oil until a drop of water sizzles, then add patties to the skillet. Cook 3-4 minutes on each side.
Assemble the sandwich with lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. Enjoy!

Hi ,this is the first time using TVP and I think it is cool that there are oats in this  :).I'm only use to eating oats in desserts so I didnt know that it would turn out great.Recipe is awesome but my burgers were not that great but edible  because I use cumin. The cumin powder over powers all the seasonings.Next time i wont use the cumin and I know that the burger would be perfect.I made burgers with cumin before and i got the same problem so i should of know better lol.I bake the burgers in the oven with no oil on tin foil which was bad lol because only the top part was crunchy while the bottom part was soft and moist like the inside.Next time ill bake them on a pan with a dime of oil.I didnt had to squezze out water because it was abosbed in my tvp quickly and the moistness of the tvp help kept the burgers together so 2 tbs flour was enough.I use a spoon to scoop it out onto the tin foil and i flatten it.Stuff i use is:

1 cup tvp
1/4 cup oats
a half of 1 fresh onion
1 cup hot\warm water from tap
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon soy sauce
  1.5 tablespoon ketchup
1\2 tsp cumin [ yuck wont use this for burgers again.I rather only use it for stuff like curry, doubles
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1\2 tsp curry
1\2 tsp chili
1\2 parprika

ohmygosh delicious. And a life-saver: I was trying to make veggie burgers late one night to take to school the next day and it ended up being a disgusting and crumbly disaster  :'(
This recipe totally saved the day as a quick, easy, and SUPER tasty replacement recipe  ;D

After the first time making these when I rated them 4 stars. I made them again and added to the spices for my personal tastes. I absolutely had to change the rating to 5 stars then. These things even can be cooked on the grill, albeit, carefully. It really adds to them.

This was my first venture with TVP and no regrets here! The burgers were AMAZING. Even my SUPER picky sister liked them.

I added minced carrot, spinach and mushroom and seasoned it with red pepper flakes, summer savory and ground mustard.

Fantastic recipe and I am seriously psyched to eat the leftovers tomorrow. Omnomnom....

These were great!! They shaped into a nice patty easily, and were very simple to make. The only thing I changed was I baked them instead of frying them. I just sprayed them with a bit of oil and they came out nice and crisp on the outside but soft/moist on the inside. YUM!! Even my mom, a die hard atkins follower thought these were fantastic. Will make these again for sure!  :)

My boyfriend lives off these, he prefers them to store bought vegan burgers! I use about half a cup fresh breadcrumbs instead of oats though.
