Indian-ish Lentil Soup

What you need:

2 smallish onions, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
8 cups of water
2 cups of lentils
1 vegetable bouillon cube
2 teaspoons garam masala
2 teaspoons curry powder
1 teaspoon turmeric

What you do:

Saute the onions and garlic in a large soup pot (I use a little oil; I'm sure you can use Pam, water or stock if you're concerned about fat).
Add the remainder of the ingredients, bring up to a boil and then turn the heat lower and simmer for about an hour, stirring occasionally. I just cook until it tastes right. Generally I'll cook it covered for 30-40 minutes and then leave the cover off until its done. I don't know if that makes a difference though.
I'm sure you can add carrots, celery or other veggies to this but I like it with just onions and garlic. I take it to work for lunch.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I thought this soup was excellent.  I did add a bit of sea salt.  Different tastes for everyone I guess.  I made it as is, with just the garlic and onion.  Most definitely tastes of Indian food.  This is the biggest reason the recipe caught my eye.  I think it would also be good over a small mound of brown rice.  I simply had it with a hunk of whole wheat bread.  I will certainly be making this again.
