Country Fried Tofu
1/2 pound extra firm tofu, pressed
3 teaspoons egg replacer (I use Ener-G)
1/4 cup water
1 splash nondairy milk
1 cup flour or vegan baking mix
Seasonings, to taste (I use chili powder, crushed red pepper, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and paprika)
1) Slice the tofu into 1 1/2" by 1/2" strips that are about a 1/4" inch.
2) Mix the egg replacer with the water and add a splash of nondairy milk. In a separate bowl mix the flour and seasonings.
3) If deep frying the tofu, heat oil for frying. If pan frying, preheat lightly oiled pan. Once the oil or pan is heated dip the tofu in the liquid mixture and then quickly into the dry mixture, making sure the seasoned flour is caked on.
4) Place tofu into the hot oil or frying pan. In the deep fryer the tofu should only take 2 to 3 minutes to cook until golden brown. If pan frying, cook tofu on both sides until golden brown.
Serve with ketchup, gravy, or any other condiments you enjoy!
