Coconut Deodorant
1/2 cup corn starch (I use organic)
1/2 cup baking soda (I use Bob's Red Mill Aluminum-Free)
1/2 cup coconut oil, melted (again try for organic)
1. Combine corn starch and baking soda; sift until well combined.
2. Add coconut oil in a liquid state. Stir it all until it forms a lotion/cream.
3. Apply to armpits as needed.
Depending on room temperature or how you like your deodorant, you can keep it in the fridge for a less convenient but more solid deodorant or leave it someplace warm for a more creamy deodorant. The coconut oil is supposed to be non-staining, but experiment on your own items. I used to use baking soda and witch hazel and make a roll-on with it, but with the addition of corn-starch the deodorizing and antiperspirant factor was significantly bumped up! Try it for yourself!
Source of recipe: I stumbled upon a similar recipe online and tweaked it a bit.
SO HOW'D IT GO?
Hi! Thanks for the great information you havr provided! You have touched on crucuial points! live news channels
howdy pgpetteway,
You'v'e probably already discovered that baking soda may be causing your irritation as it can be abrasive. Perhaps cutting back on the baking soda and/or using a finer milled b.s. like Bob's red mill will help.
I tried this and it works great on controlling odor. I have not found anything that has worked as well, but I have one problem it has been causing irritation. Any suggestions on what might be causing it or how I can stop it? I want to keep using it because it works, so any suggestions on how I could adjust it so I don't get irritation? I love that the base is coconut oil. I have been using coconut oil in place of lotions and creams on my skin for a while now and love it.
I just made this and am interested in seeing how it works. I tried putting some into an old deodorant stick container, but it dripped through the bottom. Any suggestions for this? How long does this mixture keep?
My boyfriend and I have both been using this deodorant for the past week. He was skeptical at first but once he ran out of his regular brand (Tom's) and was too lazy to go get a new stick, he caved in and gave it a try! I see no reason to ever switch back. I only used 1/4 cup of each ingredient and it made a little over a deodorant stick worth. Thanks for this great recipe!! :)>>>
I have not noticed it staining my clothes, but I have been wearing a lot of tank tops lately.. Maybe you could try with an old shirt at first?
It really does work well though, worth trying.
Has anyone had any problem with staining on their clothes? I'd like to try this out just as a fun alternative to my tea tree oil deodorant but I'm afraid of the oil hurting my cloths. Let me know if I am being silly!
I can not believe how well this deodorant works! Best natural deodorant I have ever tried :)>>>
I keep most of it in the fridge so it keeps and keep a little in a jar in my bathroom.
I also have really sensitive skin, many natural deodorants give me what seems like a chemical burn... plus they don't even work. So thanks for the good recipe.
I try to stay as scent- free because of my dh's many allergies otherwise I might add Patchouli as it's one of the few antiperspirant and deodorizing oils. I think unless I keep it in the fridge the oil might not set right in a deo stick container. And I'll forget it in the fridge. Was thinking of upping the coconut oil and putting it in a roll-on bottle but not sure yet if That would jam up. Right now I'm just super happy this works so well because I spent a day out in 95 degree weather today with a 4 year old and I smell only slightly coconutty!
I make a deodorant with this same recipe but I add a few drops of tea tree oil and lavender oil. Antibacterial and it smells great! You can also try pouring this into an empty and rinsed deodorant stick container before it sets for easy application. ;)b
