Cheeze Ball

What you need:

1 package (8 ounces) vegan cream cheese, softened (I use Tofutti)
1 (10 ounce) block vegan cheddar cheese, softened and shredded (I use cheddar Rella)
1/4 cup vegan margarine, softened
1-2 tablespoons steak sauce or vegan Worcestershire sauce
few dashes liquid smoke
chopped nuts, to coat (almonds or walnuts are both good)

What you do:

1. Mix vegan cream cheese, cheese, and margarine. Add the steak sauce or vegan Worcestershire sauce and liquid smoke.
2. Beat with an electric mixer until creamy. Refrigerate at least 4 hours.
3. Shape into a ball, then roll ball in chopped nuts.
Eat on top of crackers. This is a wonderful appetizer that my grandmother makes every Christmas (of course, her version is not vegan). I didn't even think about trying to make a vegan version until last night when I was looking around the apartment for something to spread on top of the crackers that I had bought.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Isn't liquid smoke fabulous? I just want to glug quarts it all day long.  :)>>>

:) I made this for Christmas Day apps. My husband and parents are happy to eat Vegan food as long as it doesn't taste 'treehugger' but my in-laws have never had a meal without meat and dairy in their life. I made this the night before (used Tobasco instead of liquid smoke and the Vegan block cheese instead of Follow Your Heart since the smell of the cheddar doesn't sit well with  me). When I tried it that night I wasn't impressed but I rolled it in plastic and sat it inthe fridge overnight. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The next afternoon it was so good we were fighting over it and my in-laws asked for the recipe. It definitelyneeds to 'age' overnight but it's well worth it.

If you like cheese balls, go and make this now!  I didn't like it much the first day, but the second day it was wonderful.  I hate veganrella, but the flavor greatly improved in cheese ball form.  Yeah I know a vegan cheese ball just seems wrong, but it really works!

I'm pretty excited about this, but I think I'll use Sheese brand of smoked cheddar "cheese" so I can skip the liquid smoke. Plus I just think Sheese tastes better uncooked than most brands. I also think the margarine can be omitted and minced green onions added with good results. I probably won't attempt this until the holidays, but I'll post my review once I do!

Anyone know if the vegan block cheese is shredded first, or what? Thanks!  :)

I haven't made this particular recipe, but I've eaten this kind of food many years ago.  Yes, shred the cheddar before adding to the other ingredients.

A vegan cheezeball? This has to be a symbol of the nearing Apocalypse. :P I love it, keep up with the devilish vegan monstrocities. ;D ;D ;D
