Hoisin Sauce Flavored Bok Choy
8 stalks baby bok choy
4-6 tablespoon hoisin sauce (enough to coat it)
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons peanut oil
Hoisin sauce is an asian flavored barbecue sauce; it has a distinct smoky flavor, but the taste of chilies are very evident (not spicy). Typically this is served to spice meaty dishes. You can easily add tofu or gluten to this dish, but I think that the bok choy can stand on its own as a quick tasty side dish to any asian style meal you make!
[this recipe is briefly steamed and then sautéed. Very quick and tasty dish. I serve this with spicy lo mein.]
Slice baby bok choy hot dog style, or from stalk to shoot in half.
1. Steam for 1-3 minutes in a standard pot with steaming plate or until steam is emitted from pot.
2. While the bok choy is steaming, heat the peanut oil in a small pan.
3. After bok choy has steamed, toss the bok choy into the oiled pan. Add hoisin sauce and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 5-10 minutes. (Not much salt will be needed since there is sodium in the hoisin sauce)
