Black Bean Burgers

What you need:

1 can black beans, drained
1/4 cup fried onions (fresh or packaged)
2 slices multigrain vegan bread, crumbled finely
Cracker crumbs
Salt, pepper, other seasonings (your choice)
Oil or no-stick spray (for frying)

What you do:

In large bowl, mash beans. Mix in crumbled vegan bread, onions and spices. Mix thoroughly, and add just enough cracker crumbs to make patties capable of holding together. Form mixture into patties or balls. (These can be coated with more cracker crumbs, if desired.)
Fry patties on both sides in a lightly greased frying pan.
Serve on buns, or any way you like em!
P.S.: Works with almost any kind of bean!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I tried this recipe out last night on my family. Added Tomato, Lettuce, Avacado, Mustard, & Grilled Onions with Mushrooms. It took a trial and error round when flipping them but once I got the hang of it these were delicious. <3 Thanks man.

Delicious. Topped mine with pickles, onion, and mustard - so good. They do seem to break apart rather easily... I made a scramble of the first one before I figured out how to flip them onto a bun properly... but maybe it's because I didn't use bread? I'm guessing the fault lies with the cook on this one, and not the recipe. :p

I'd like to try this, however, I live in the UK so I'm not familiar with the cup measurements, and I won't be using canned beans.
I want to only make two burgers, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might do this?

A cup is about 1/4 of a liter.
1/4 cup of dry beans is about one can of beans.

These were so good and I'm so happy to find a healthier "burger" replacement than pre-made veggie burgers.  I love them, but they are so processed.

One little thing though; my burgers were quite mushy.  I was hoping for more of a firm texture (like the commercial veggie burgers!).  Is that a typical texture when you make your own, or could it be the beans?  I am thinking it's because they were a tad too thick.  I definitely could have made smaller patties or added more crunchy vegetables.  I used mushrooms and onion.

I'm excited to experiment with this recipe by using different spices and veggies.  :) I especially liked the fact that these ingredients were everyday items I always have on hand.

They were pretty good!  I'll be making those again.

These were awesome.  I used sprouted grain bread and rice crumbs (gluten free bread crumbs...) instead of cracker crumbs.  They stuck together fairly nicely.  Served them with salsa and avocado on rolls.  They were super filling ... warning: don't be tempted to eat too much, remember they ARE beans!

1 Can is usually 14.5 oz.
1 Cup = 8oz
So .. .to get one "can" I would use 14-15oz.

Enjoyed this very much. Except, if youre using canned beans, you dont need salt, theyre already salty even if you rinse the beans.

These were delicious! I fried a jalepeno in with the onion, and used a half cup of panko instead of the bread or crackers...they stayed together but were a little dry, think next time ill put some vegenaise in the mix for moistness....
