Tofu Burger Patties

What you need: 

1 block soft fresh tofu, drained
1/4 cup (50 ml) loosely packed shredded carrots
1/2 cup ( 125 ml) oatmeal
1 finely minced green onion
2 tablespoons (30 ml) potato flakes
2 teaspoons (10 ml) soy sauce
1 tablespoon (15 ml) toasted seasame seeds
1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) crushed chilli peppers
1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) black pepper
1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) garlic powder

What you do: 

Mash tofu, combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Form 6 large burger patties and cook slowly on both sides in lightly oiled skillet over medium heat. Cook the first side with the lid on, then remove lid for the second side. Serve in a burger bun with all the trimmings, or as an entree with vegetables.

This looks very similar to the tofu patties recipe I used to make way back when I was veggie before.  I've googled and browsed through old veggie cookbooks and haven't been able to find the old one.  I can't wait to try this. :)

I thought they were a little bland, but tasted more like chi'kn patties than burger patties. Had to add more oatmeal and potato flakes than the recipe called for to make the patties firmer.

I suggest adding four tablespoons (total) of crushed red pepper flakes, one teaspoon more of pepper than called for, a half a teaspoon of sea salt, a teaspoon or two of chili powder, a few shakes of seasoned salt, a teaspoon of poultry seasoning, and a whole teaspoon of garlic powder. (Aside from a lot more potato flakes and oatmeal.)

It was good but if you're looking for a "burger" taste this isn't the recipe for you.

I actually didn't care too much for this recipe. IMO it was very bland.

These are well nice!  :)

I'd never heard of potato flakes, so left them out and put an Orgran No Egg in to bind it, as it was looking a bit crumbly. It'll take a garlic clove and quite a bit more chilli.

I ate loads - nice one. :D

:) Great patties! I accidentally put more garlic powder in, but they turned out great anyway. Definitely worth making =)
