Lazy and Hungry Tofu plus Broccoli

What you need:

1 teaspoon veggie oil
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/3 of a 14 oz block extra-firm tofu
1 cup broccoli (approx; I just prepare what I think will feed me)
1 tablespoon soy sauce
sesame seeds (optional)

What you do:

Cut tofu and broccoli into bite-size pieces.
Heat both oils over medium heat in a large skillet. Place tofu pieces in skillet and let cook for 4-5 minutes, or until golden on bottom. Cover for faster cooking.
Flip tofu pieces so that the other side can cook. Add broccoli. Pour soy sauce over tofu and broccoli. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, until broccoli is heated through and tofu is browned on the bottom.
Serve immediately over pasta, noodles, or grain of choice. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Sooo good! And sooo incredibly quick and easy!
I tripled the recipe - used a tablespoon of each oil, whole slab of tofu, and three tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce.
I used frozen broccoli straight out of the freezer, and it worked out just fine. I also cut the tofu into small cubes so that it would cook faster.
Things I added: 3 cloves of chopped garlic while tofu was sauteeing, black pepper when everything was about done, and some red pepper flakes
Thanks for posting this!

OMG!!!!  BEST MEAL EVER!!!!  Seriously I can't rave about this enough.  It takes absolutely no time at all... it is super delicious.  I made the broccoli a little different since I had frozen broccoli.  I just threw the broccoli with 2T of water into the microwave for about 5 minutes and when the tofu was done put that over the broccoli (the broccoli was transfered to a different plate sans water of course).  Everyone should try this recipe... LOVE IT!!! 5 big fat stars!

Do you let the tofu drain for a while before cutting and cooking it or just cook it right out of the package? I can never seem to get my tofu to cook properly  :-\

I usually cut what I need fresh out of the package and then press the slabs gently with a paper towel to soak up excess water. When I do it this way it is heated through but still soft when I cook it for ten minutes, which I don't mind in these kind of recipes but I know isn't everyone's cup of tea. If you want it drier I say definitely press it for a little bit beforehand, or maybe freeze your tofu, which makes it easier to drain and chewier in texture.

I left out the sesame seeds, added mushrooms and used a sesame & garlic sauce instead of the soy sauce. Until now my daughter refused to eat mushrooms but she loved this even with the mushrooms and wants me to make it again.

This was really good! I thought sesame oil wasn't supposed to be heated, so I didn't add it until almost the end, but put the sesame seeds in while the tofu was cooking instead. Oh, and I used string beans instead of broccoli.

Sesame oil can definitely be heated.  It's the oil used in asian stir fries and indian cooking.

You might be thinking about flax seed oil.  That shouldn't be heated.

Wow! This is my first time ever to try tofu, and I don't think it will be my last! Great taste to eat, and extremely fun to cook with all the steam from the soy sauce... Sounds weird, I know, but it is fun to make a lot of vapor when you fry!  ;D I had a great time, and I am sure to make this again. I made only one change - I used a cup of frozen vegetable soup mix instead of broccoli. GREAT RECIPE!  8)

How thin are you cutting the tofu? I usually cook squares that are no more than 1/2-inch thick.

I cut it about that thin...maybe a little thicker.
