Amazing Rosemary Bread

What you need:

1 tablespoon yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons vegan margarine, divided
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups flour, divided
2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped, divided

What you do:

1. Place yeast, sugar and water in large bowl or food processor and allow mixture to become bubbly. Mix in 1 tablespoon margarine, salt, and 2 cups flour.
2. Add one tablespoon of the fresh chopped rosemary. Knead for about 10 minutes by hand or in food processor about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if necessary.
3. Oil a bowl, put dough in it and cover with a towel. Let dough rise in a warm place for one hour until doubled. Punch down dough and divide in half. Let dough rest about 5 minutes.
4. Shape the dough into 2 small rounded oval loaves. Sprinkle remaining 1 tablespoon rosemary over the loaves and press lightly into the surface. Let loaves rise again until doubled, about 45 minutes. Grease a baking pan or sheet, and preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
5. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly browned. Carefully remove from oven, brush with remaining vegan margarine (and salt if desired).

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I made this again last night.  I did one batch with the rosemary, cuz my Mom wanted to try it - she LOVED it!  I did the second batch with diced jalepenos in the dough, and then whole jalepenos pressed into the top of the bread before baking.  Oh. My. Gosh.  I loved the rosemary bread, so I don't even know what to call how I feel about the jalepeno bread.  It is amazing.  Like seriously delicious bread.  The jalepeno loaves didn't get as high as the rosemary ones, they kinda spread out more and were flatter, but it didn't matter, they were SO good!  Thanks again for a great recipe!

This bread was nothing short of FANTASTIC! I've never been to a Macaroni Grill, but if this bread is an indicator of their cuisine, I have no qualms with roadtripping to the nearest location! This bread was wonderfully "buttery" and absolutely bursting with flavor.  It made an entire co-op full of vegans very, very happy!

This bread is AWESOME!!!  :D I made it for my mom, dad, and my mom's best friend and they all loved it.  To go along with the delicious bread, I made the spinach pesto pasta with roasted veggies (this recipe is on vegweb and is really good too) and bean salad, my own recipe, where i put black beans, chickpeas, corn and great northern beans together and put some italian dressing on it. Both of these dishes really complemented the bread. Thanks to the creator of the recipe, It is amazing, and i know i will make it alot now.  :)>>>

Oh my.  This bread is awesome.  Like seriously, the best bread I've ever had.  I never had the stuff from Macaroni Grill, so I don't know how it compares, but it doesn't matter.  The only thing I did differently was sprinkle some garlic salt (instead of regular salt) on the loaves before baking, since I was serving with pesto and thought it'd go well.  It did.  Huzzah!  Thanks for a great recipe.  I'll be making this over and over again.  :)>>>

Yup, it's got to be foolproof. This turned out PERFECT and I am generally no good at making yeast bread. I gave one of the loaves to my uncle, but now I've got to make more.

My fiance and I LOVE this recipe. It's so amazing and it is exactly like Macaroni Grill's bread. Now there's no point for me to ever go there. The only pasta that we can have is the garlic olive oil and I can make that & the bread at home for a tiny fraction of what it would cost to eat there!

This turned out perfect!  Instead of spreading the margarine and extra rosemary on top, I made a rosemary-garlic-margarine to put on each slice of bread.  Mmm!

Excellent recipe-- so simple and tastes GREAT!

I used a mixture whole wheat and whole spelt flour, and added olive oil instead of margarine.  I can usually taste a significant difference between bread made with white flour vs whole wheat/ brown rice/ etc flour-- but the rosemary kept me from noticing that the bread was baked with "healthy" flour! Yay!

:P mmm, mmm, mmm! first of all, i made bread! i am hesitant when it comes to recipes with yeast. it never seems to rise for me, or at least not as quickly as the recipes state. anyhow, the bread came out great. i just spread a slice with earth balance and sprinkled it with garlic powdered and toasted it. ahhh, fabulous! roasted garlic would be fantastic.
