Simply Fava-los
1 pound large frozen fava beans
6-8 garlic cloves, finely diced
1/8-1/4 cup olive oil
sea salt and pepper, to taste
1. Boil/blanch frozen beans for about 5 minutes or until the tough outer skin can be pinched off. Drain and run the beans under cold water; peel the beans.
2. While beans are blanching, warm the garlic cloves in a skillet on a medium flame with the olive oil and add the fava beans just before they start to brown.
3. Add salt and pepper on top, turning until everything is coated nicely. Lower flame, cover and let simmer for 5 minutes.
Spoon and serve! Simple.
This can also be mashed up and spread on a sandwich like hummus. Fava beans are very meaty and filling. Please note, fresh and dried fava beans have a slightly different taste.
SO HOW'D IT GO?
Thanks so much for the recipe! I am living in another country without access to tofu, seitan, or other vegan protein options. Fresh faba beans are widely available here and I'm learning to cook with them.
