Simple Cabbage & Almond Salad Infused with Asian Flavors

What you need: 

1 large clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon Hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon light soy sauce or tamari
3/4 teaspoon minced root ginger
3 cups very finely shredded cabbage
2 spring (green) onions, white and green parts, finely sliced on the diagonal
1/2 cup raw almonds, dry roasted until medium-brown, then chopped

What you do: 

1. Dressing: In a bowl, combine garlic, lemon juice, Hoisin sauce, olive oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, and ginger; whisk thoroughly.
1. Salad: In a bowl, combine the cabbage, spring onions, and almonds.
3. Pour dressing over salad; toss to combine.
4. Refrigerate before serving.

Great dressing and very easy.  Next time I'll add carrots and baby corn.

I think the dressing could use a little more lemon juice.  Next time I make it, I'd probably add some shredded carrot for a bit of color.  Good recipe, though.

This is a great recipe.  It's easy to make and has been a hit each time I've made it.  I've had numerous people ask for the recipe.  I use red cabbage and it looks lovely in a colorful serving bowl.  Thanks for sharing, adagio!

hi, the author here....i have only ever used hoisin sauce.  it really makes this salad.  can you not find it? perhaps others can help.

does anyone know a good substitute for hoisin sauce?  Is it necessary for this recipie or is there something else like it i could add? Thanks

An added note from the recipe's author: it is not intended that you use all of the dressing.  Simply add as much as seems good to you.
