Rich, Creamy, Chocolate Ice Cream (no ice cream maker)!

What you need:

2 tablespoons cocoa powder
5 tablespoons sugar
3 small bananas (1 1/2 regular size)
5 tablespoons vanilla nondairy milk (I use soy)

What you do:

1. Blend ingredients in a blender until smooth.
2. Pour contents into plastic container and freeze for several hours, stirring every hour or so, until frozen.
Serve immediately with your favorite ice cream toppings! This recipe is easy and super healthy! You can barely taste the bananas, but they give it such a creamy texture.
Source of recipe: I came up with this easy recipe when we wanted an ice cream that was healthy and didn't need an ice cream maker! It doesn't get icy, but stays creamy and good.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I've just made this with tweaks, doubling the recipe:

  • Instead of sugar, I added dried, pitted (stoneless) dates. I used 12
  • I used 1 cup soya milk + 2 heaped tablespoons plain porridge oats to give a creamier consistency
  • I used about 5 heaped tablespoons of cocoa powder

The result is fabulous.

Sorry but there isn't a choice for comments without trying the recipe.

Why was there no mention of the bananas in the title?  I hate bananas and was really looking forward to the ice cream.  Bummer.

I'm sorry you don't like bananas, but honestly, people usually don't list every ingredient in the title, because it's just that: a title. If it was a banana ice cream it would be a different story, but it is a chocolate ice cream. The bananas are the base of the ice cream that keep it creamy, not the main flavor. I hope you can find an ice cream that you like, but you will probably have to check the ingredients in every recipe before you choose one. Best of luck  :)

got it in the freezer, used coconut milk (not canned) and added a bit of vanilla, and eyeballed the sugar and coco powder since i had 3 big super ripe bannanas that needed to be used. tasted good in the liquid phase, excited to try it here in a bit!
