I Can't Believe It's Vegan Gravy!

What you need:

1 vegetable bullion cube
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
few good dashes garlic powder
2 heaped tablespoons nutritional yeast
few good dashes soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon mustard
1/4-1/2 cup flour, as needed (I use brown rice flour)
1 tablespoon vegan butter
sea salt and pepper, to taste

What you do:

1. Combine all ingredients in pot, and bring to boil.
2. Cook on medium low heat until done.
I sometimes like to add a little pinch of sage as well. This goes great over everything! My Dad (avid meat eater) says that this gravy is delicious!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I didn't think it would taste as good as people said but it did. I added minced garlic and onion and white wine. Really think and tasty.

This was really easy to make so long as I added the flour slowly as it seemed to thicken before I knew it. Very tasty. I served it over sauteed tempeh and mashed potatoes. Thanks for sharing.

This gravy is AMAZING.

I have made this recipe loads of time and every time people are shocked it is vegan.

Perfect for the holidays!

Made this last night for my mashed potatoes and Field Roast vegan meatloaf. SO AMAZING. I made a smaller version with all the ingredients and just guessing at the amounts. I used dijon and made the roux and slowly added the water until it was the desired consistency. Thank you so much, this is by far the best vegan gravy I have ever had!!

This is the shizznit. (yes, I still say shizznit)
I love it, and so does my carnivorous family! I use it as the gravy in my vegan Shepard's Pie.

YUM! <3

:)  I agree... this was GREAT...even my 9 year old meat eating granddaughter ate everything with no problem...thanks for sharing

Is it just us or does this taste remarkably similair to KFC gravy?! It even coagulated after being in the fridge the same way KFC gravy did. Or maybe we're dillusional because we haven't had KFC in years. Either way, it is very tasty!

I left out the butter and used whole wheat flour and this was really good.  If I had potatoes in the house, I would have used it on a poutine like one of the pictures.  Very good!

Very good gravy. I used white flour, and took the recommendations of others and slowly stirred the flour in  after everything else was boiling. Turned out great.  ;)b

I made this gravy to go on top of seitan loaf and mashed potatos.  My mom ate my vegan dinner I actually prepared for myself.  She is a carnivore so she surprised me by saying, I don't mind vegan every once in a while.  So she had a vegan dinner along with me.  Then she further shocked the he!! out of me by saying "wow, this gravy is good, what is in it?"  I really thought that she was not going to like it, I really did.  She  even commented on it again today, "that gravy was really good."  I agree, it was good, but the fact that she liked it really shocked me.

Thanks for this recipe.  I may not be able to turn my mom vegan, but if I get her to eat a vegan meal every once in a while, I feel I have done a good job.  And recipes like this help.
