Healthy Apple Crisp Recipe

What you need:

Apples:
2 apples, chopped
1 tablespoon fruit juice, optional
3 tablespoons water
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice mix (or just cinnamon)
1 teaspoon unrefined sugar, optional Topping:
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup whole grain flour (If you are using quick oats, do not add flour)
1 tablespoon unrefined sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice mix (or just cinnamon)
1/4 cup unsweetened flaked coconut, optional
2 tablespoons walnut pieces, optional
4-6 tablespoons water

What you do:

1. You can either make this on the stovetop or in the oven. For stovetop, put the apples, along with the juice, water, spices, and sugar in a pot on medium heat. For topping, in bowl, stir together oats, flour (if using), sugar, spices, coconut, and walnuts (if using).
2. Add just enough water to bring the mix together. Spoon the topping over the apples and put a lid on the pot. Leave to cook for 5-10 minutes, being careful not to let the water at the bottom of the pot evaporate. If it does, just add a couple more tablespoons water.
3. For oven, preheat to 300 degrees F. Put the apples, along with the juice, water, spices, and sugar in a baking dish. For topping, in bowl, stir together oats, flour (if using), sugar, spices, coconut, and walnuts (if using).
4. Add just enough water to bring the mix together. Spoon the topping over the apples and put the dish into the oven. Bake for 20 minutes, or so, until the topping starts to brown.
Serve hot with a cup of green tea. I hope you enjoy this healthy apple crisp recipe, the latest of my healthy vegan recipes.

Desert for breakfast was a wonderful way to start my Saturday! I baked this tasty dish and woke up my husband with the sweet aroma.  I'll dress it up with some soy dream and serve it at night next time I have company.  Lovely.

I'm a fan of this! Love that it's low-fat and low-sugar, love that it's natural and healthy... and naturally delicious!

I threw in an extra apple and a cup of blueberries to get more out of it :P
