Ghetto Curried Tofu Slabs

What you need:

1 pound firm tofu, sliced
splash soy sauce
curry powder, to taste
1 clove garlic, chopped, optional

What you do:

1. Put tofu in a microwave bowl and heat up for about 1 1/2 minutes.
2. Put a splash of soy sauce in with the tofu and as much curry as you want.
3. Add in the garlic, if using. Microwave for 2-3 more minutes, and enjoy!

Preparation Time:
5 minutes
Cooking Time:
Servings:
1-6

SO HOW'D IT GO?

i found that squeezing the tofu first helped alot with the texture, helped the soy absorb more. used chile powder instead of curry but it rocked. i'd imagine pequin chilis powdered would work even better if you're a masochist.

I'm a masochist.  might just try the pequin chili powder.

Hmm I bet this recipe would be good with some chopped up green onion thrown into the soy sauce... I will have to try, because it sounds like a great "I'M TWO AND I HAVE TO EAT NOW" recipe....

We tried this at our house and made it into wraps with some curried avocado and grated cheese.  They were okay, but the tofu wasn't all that tasty.  I don't know if we did something wrong, but it didn't have that great of flavor.  My finance wasn't impressed.  Any suggestions to make the flavor really pop?  I would love to try this again because it was very easy, but also, kind of tasteless.

So quick and so delicious - I made it this morning before work to take for lunch.  I used a BBQ spice instead of curry and will definitely be doing it again!

Last night I had literally minutes to make dinner and get out of the house, and I happened to think of this recipe. I only put the tofu (already covered in curry and soy sauce) in the microwave for about 30 seconds and it still tasted fine. I was able to prepare everything in literally a minute, and was eating within about 2 or 3 minutes of walking in the door. This is a fabulous recipe to keep in mind for those rushed days. Thanks!

So were these curried tofu slabs actually concocted in a ghetto?  Or is that your preferred adjective to describe low budget or easy?

My two cents: Ghettos are real and shouldn't be made light of.

nooo, i wasn't trying to make fun or anythign like that...just for some inexpensive college kid food...im soso sorri if i have offended anyone, truly not my intention at all....

It's urban slang for "cheap and unsophisticated", and has been in use in this manner for decades.  I'm sure she doesn't mean that this is tofu from segregrated city neighbourhoods.

as for the recipe, I'd love to try this.
