Chai Oatmeal

What you need: 

1/2 cup oatmeal
1/4 teaspoon each allspice, cardamon, cinnamon, and coriander
1 pinch each black pepper, nutmeg, and turmeric
Agave, as desired
Raisins, as desired
2 cups water (for a richer oatmeal you may use a non-dairy milk)

What you do: 

1) Bring all ingredients to a boil and cook, stirring often, for about 10 minutes or until done.

I really like chai, but was disappointed in this. I felt the spices were a little overpowering, and made it a little gritty. I was not fond of the flavor either... maybe it's just the way that I know chai not being authentic, I don't know.

It's a sweet syrup that comes from a cactus. You could use any type of sweetener in place of the agave. Vegans often use agave in place of honey.

forgive me for being an ignorant aussie, i'd love to try this recipe. but what is agave, & what do you do with it?
