2 cups brown sugar
1 cup margarine
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup light corn syrup (or Karo syrup)
1 teaspoon baking soda
6-8 quarts popped popcorn
Place popped popcorn into very large greased baking dish, such as a large roaster.
Put all ingredients, except baking soda and popcorn, into a 2 quart saucepan. Bring to a boil, turn down and simmer for 5 minutes. Don't stir too often. Add one teaspoon baking soda. Pour over popcorn and mix.
Bake at 200F for one hour, stir every 15 minutes. Remove from oven and break into pieces. Store in airtight container.
Notes: This is my mothers recipe. She and we both grew up on it, having it for a special Sunday snack. This will be very crunchy, and stick terribly to your teeth. :) You can easily cut this in half, this makes a ton. If you don't have a pan big enough, a 1/2 recipe will fit (heaping) into a 9x13 baking dish.
Hope you enjoy, I have also posted her Easy Peanut Butter Fudge, and her Grandmother's Molasses cookies that I grew up on, and are also vegan. My family enjoys them all during the holidays.
