anti virus/adware/spyware

I have run into some puter problems & need some advice.

Somehow I have become infected with adware, spyware & a few virus' just by logging on to our computer. It's strange but at the same time something attached itself to the pc, a new "spyware guard" has appeared & wants to scan our computer. It scans but won't repair....yeah, that's a lot of good.

I usually go to castlecops.com for downloads & information but it seems they were attacked & the site is down  :o  >:( I don't know if I am just being paranoid but I do not trust any other site...heard too much about software that is suppose to help but instead is spyware.

I do trust the opinion of you all, so I need to know....what kind of anti-virus, ad-ware & spyware software do you use to keep your PC's running clean? Do you know of a trusted site that offers honest information & support on different kinds of downloads? And that offers downloads as well?

I used freedownloadzone this morning & had nothing but problems. It didn't work & I was over-charged.  I got a refund immediately....that gave me a very uneasy feeling.

Thank you for your help  :-*

I keep hearing, "Hi, I'm a mac.......Hi, I'm a PC" in the back of my head. LOL so all you mac users....be nice, like the guy in the commercial  ;D

I used AVG for a LONG time and really liked it. I have Symantec now, which was a free download through my college website. I haven't had a virus or spyware on my computer since... well, since I bought this new computer like 2 years ago. Nothing seems to get through. Guess I've learned better internet safety practices.

;)b

I also use FireFox web browser with the NoScript addon. This not only blocks most ads, but blocks the "invisible" scripts that some websites automatically run when you visit them, which is often what puts the spyware there in the first place.

If you don't use Firefox I would highly recommend it. It can help prevent a lot of problems before they ever make it onto your computer, while virus and spyware scanners usually catch things once they have infected you.

LOL Meggs  ;D

I use the free AVG & a spyware detector (I'm at work now & can't remember what it's called). I also have an outdated Norton but it still warns me when attempts are made. They automatically scan every morning & I have never had a problem until today. And, I only use Mozilla.....I can't figure out how this happened. :ouch:

Do you have NoScript installed on your Mozilla?

Or, enabled... I can't remember if it comes with it, I'm at work right now too.

If the website you usually use was attacked, then really that's just part of the internet. I had a small guild website I visited hacked once, and once it was all cleared up I had to scan my whole computer and change all my passwords.

Stuff happens, you're doing good by seeking out ways to protect yourself better. Hackers, spyware, they are always trying to get a leg up on what you've got. It's inevitable that eventually they will.

I use Avast and it's FREE! I've never had any problems at all--it detects virus and adware stuff really great!

Well, it's a lot worse than I thought  :'( I've tried everything, even scanning in safe mode but the damn thing has a mind of its own...shuts down & reboots. Right now it is unplugged & offline....just in case the zombie inside still wants on the web. I hate the chaos that hackers & spammers cause!  >:(

I definitely need to bring it to a professional. I just hope it isn't terminal. I can do a factory restore but that is the last thing I want done. Hopefully a techy can save it.

First of all, I would suggest you to immediately download,

http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html . It is a freeware and I have been using it for some time now.

You will be surprised to find that your system had so many spywares lodged in it.

Next , you can run AVG Free Anti virus scan.

You should have no more problems.
