Spicy Sweet Potato Fries

What you need:

1 teaspoon coriander seeds
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 medium sized sweet potatoes, cut into wedges
2-3 tablespoons olive oil

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Using a mortar and pestle or spice grinder, coarsely grind coriander seeds, fennel seeds, oregano and red pepper. Combine with other spices.
2. Toss potato wedges in enough oil to coat evenly then toss with spices.
3. Spread wedges on a baking sheet and bake for about 40 minutes or until browned, flipping over the wedges with a spatula halfway through. Enjoy!'

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Oops.  I meant to add that I used the orange fleshed tubers which we call yams here in Canada and I've heard people in the US call sweet potatoes.  I'm not sure which the original recipe meant, but I'm sure it would work well with either.

There is actually a difference between yams and sweet potatoes.  Yams are naturally sweeter and darker, whereas sweet potatoes are more yellowish and not as sweet.  :)

I'm excited to try this recipe out, I love sweet potatoes!

I know there's a difference between yams and sweet potatoes, that's why I explained which root veggie I used to make the recipe.

My bad.  >.<

This recipe turned out great, although I think I added too much fennel, lol.  My roommate said it tasted like Christmas Trees.  :D

No worries.  I'm curious how your's tasted now! Christmas trees?!  ;D  Seriously... try them with cumin seeds. Yum!

This recipe is great!  I just polished off the entire batch of spicy sweet potato fries in about 5 minutes and I will def be making them again in the future.  My only change was to sub cumin seeds for fennel seeds and I tried making half the batch in bite sized triangle-shaped pieces which worked quite well and made them even easier to snack on.
