What song is stuck in your head today?

WHY oh why is it that the song that gets stuck in your head and goes roundandround all day is never one you actually LIKE? In fact, it's usually one you hate!

And if not, you hate it by the end of the day.

Today I'm stuck with a song from "Guys and Dolls": Sit down you're rocking the boat.
Sigh.

What's in your head today?

Every time this plays, it makes me want to dance.

Stuck with a track from Alan Parsons' "Tales of Mystery and Imagination", called "Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether."
Just what you need to make you feel better
Just what you need to make you feel
Just what you need to make you feel better
Just what you need to make you feel

At the far end of your tether
And your thoughts won’t fit together
So you sleep light or whatever
And the night goes on forever
The your mind change like the weather
Your in need of doctor tarr and professor fether

Probably because I had to have a blood test this morning.

And today I woke up to the theme song from the movie, "Nine To Five". I guess it's because I had to get up way early to make a physiotherapy appointment at 8.30 AM. "Tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen, pour myself a cup of ambition" indeed. Except I just take my thyroid meds and leave the house because if I want breakfast first I'd have to get up even earlier to allow for the 30 min absorption time.

Dolly Parton and Tanya Tucker both have a way of getting into my head, ALL THE TIME.  I never listen to them, but I always get 'Nine to Five' and 'The Happiest Girl' in my head, it feels like at least once a week.  My grandmother's musical tastes somehow follow me everywhere I go.

Shine on my sunshine, walk with me world it's a skippity do day daaaaay!! ACK

Blow ye winds hi-ho, a roving I will go,
I'll stay no more on Ireland's shore, so let the music play.
I'll be off on the morning train, and across the bounding main,
I'm taking a trip on a Dublin ship, ten thousand miles away.

I haven't heard that song for about 35 years. Why today? The Irish Rovers, forsooth.

Due to the "Word Association Game" I now have that silly song about the duck asking for grapes.
"Waddle waddle, and he waddled away."

(I realised for the first time that my previous song below was not about the Irish going to America. Rather, it's about a man being transported to Australia. The US is not ten thousand miles from Ireland. Australia however is.)

Currently I am being (pleasantly) haunted by the song from The Merchant of Venice:

Tell me where is fancy bred?
Or in the heart, or in the head?
How begot, how nourished?
Reply....
I can't tell you the singer's name (I knew it a minute ago but I tried to say it and it's gone) but her voice is lovely.

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?

Oh dear.

And today I woke up with "Patches" in my head, which I haven't heard since I was about 12. I had bought one of those K-Tel record compilations of old hits and it was on there. Weird song.

Down by the river that flows by the coal yard
Stand wooden houses with shutters torn down
There lives a girl everybody calls Patches
Patches my darling of old Shantytown

We planned to marry when June brought the summer
I couldn?t wait to make Patches my bride
Now I don?t see how that ever can happen
My folks say no and my heart breaks inside

Patches oh what can I do?
I swear, I?ll always love you
But a girl from that place would just bring me disgrace
So my folks won?t let me love you

Each night I cry as I think of that Shanty and pretty patches
There watching the door
She doesn?t know that I can?t come to see her
Patches must think that I love her no more

I hear a neighbor telling my father
He says, a girl name of Patches was found
Floating face down in that dirty old river
That flows by the coal yards
In old Shantytown

Patches oh what can I do?
I swear, I?ll always love you
It may not be right but I?ll join you tonight
Patches I?m coming to you

They don't write em like that anymore...thank goodness.

I haven't slept in over 36 hrs. And I'm stuck with "Tears on my pillow, ache in my heart caused by you-oo--oo--oo--oo."

Wakin’ up here on a rainy day
I swore last time that I would stay away
I came down here to talk to you
I said this time I might get through.

I heard us speak but all the words were dead
We talked all night and left it all unsaid
So we agree to disagree
At least we got our memory.

Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
You’ll find a way to say it all someday (yeah)
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
Yeah, night and day, night and day.

You’ve got your secrets yeah and I’ve got mine
We’ve played this game now for a long long time
You don’t lean on anyone
You never had no place to run.

You never wanted me to get too close
We love and hate the ones we need the most
I tried to find a way to you
One thing I could say to you.

Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
You’ll find a way to say it all someday (yeah)
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
Yeah, night and day, night and day.

Maybe I’ve always set my sights too high
You take the easy way and still get by
I know there ain’t no special way
We all get there anyway.

I heard us speak but all the words were dead
Talked all night and left it all unsaid
So we agree to disagree
At least we got our memory.

Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
You’ll find a way to say it all someday (yeah)
Whatever’s written in your heart, that’s all that matters
Yeah, night and day, night and day.

(fade)
Yeah, Night and day and day
Yeah, Night and day and day (whatever’s written in your heart)

For the past 2 days I had "Randy Scouse Gitt" by the Monkees because we watched a Davy Jones tribute on ITV. Today, I woke up with Papa Gene's Blues, which is a welcome change.
"I have no more than I did before, but now I've got all that I need.
For I love you and I know you love me."

And today at lunch it was suddenly, "Won't It Be Wonderful There."
