Forks Over Knives: now on Netflix, woot!

Available streaming, no less, for instant viewing!

I watched it the other day, and liked it. Hits the issue from primarily the health perspective, especially focusing on T Colin Campbell and Caldwell Esselstyn, in a 'Supersize Me' style (the narrator goes all-plants for a month or whatever, with complete physicals before & after, with predictably impressive results re: cholesterol, blood pressure, etc)... Very user-friendly to uninformed omnis, without being either preachy or condescending... Good presentation of some science I hadn't seen, as well as the health info that's common knowledge among our tribe but not SAD eaters. I'm adding this to 'Food Inc' and 'Eating Animals', as recommended starting points for veg-curious omnis.

Yay for Netflix! that's a pretty broad audience of potential planteaters.  :)

I watched it and realized I need to get back off caffeine and that until my Red Bull this morning, it would have been my third caffeine-free day (yay for being too dizzy to stand).  Which means tomorrow will be my first caffeine-free day.  Which is kind of okay because I have Monday off and I'm working at home on Tuesday, so I'll have three full days before I have to interact with people in a state of withdrawal.

I think the film made me more concerned about what other people eat, over which I have little control.  :-/

Yeah, it kinda got me thinking about my sugar and oil usage, as well as caffeine dependency... not ready to completely quit any of these, but there's definitely room for reduction.

My circle of omni friends just lost a sweet funny kind husband/ father/ friend to cancer, at 40... have another dear friend who is veggie but heavy consumer of dairy, currently on hard-core chemo for liver cancer... hubby's best friend (diehard southern carnivore/ barbecue and bacon at every meal) just had a massive heart attack at 42... I'm going to start kidnapping people for coerced viewings. That's clearly the only reasonable course of action.

Clearly.  Tie them to the chairs with stringy vegetables/vines to show them how strong veggies are.  (How that makes sense, I don't know, but it would look good.)

We both loved this.

Wouldn't it be great if this was mandatory curriculum for health class?

YES!!!

... with 'fast food nation' and 'eating animals' as philosophy class supplementals.  ;)b

I watched the guy from The China Study on Bill Maher today, I was really excited to see him on television promoting Forks over Knives :-)  I still have not seen it though.

I didn't read any further down after I read your comment, but I just wanted to say I have been trying to give up caffeine as well. I was kinda depressed until I started drinking Vega Sport Performance Optimizing shake thing. It is delicious, but not TOTALLY caffeine free. There is some tea powders in it that contain caffeine, but I love it and it is a good middle ground for me and gives me the energy I need to feel human in the mornings. ;-)

Random coincidence:  There was a GNC Groupon today that I was considering purchasing to see if they carry Vega, but none of the locations near me are included in the offer.
