let's not forget our vegweb commune idea, either, now.
or someone else who has the money should just move there and i can live vicariously through you. the end.
yeah, but i don't have 21k
Its easier to rob/scam 21k than 210k...
just sayin' :)
if eric's comment were on facebook, i would 'like' it. just sayin'
these people are now looking to find a caretaker instead of a buyer....
well it looks like they still want a buyer but need someone to come right away to take care of it before the sale goes through... but hello! you and dustin should SO do this!!!
They said if they find the right caretaker they won't sell. Sadness, though, cause we can't, atm :(
ahhhhh i see. i'm sorry you can't do it :( sucky.
THEY HAVE CHOCOLATE PUDDING FRUIT TREES.
IT IS WORTH IT. ROB A BANK.
(I just feel like I needed to post here.)
We keep talking about a commune... why not just get in gear and do it? I'm sure we could. How many people could the place support, reasonably?
see the commune thread i started a couple of years ago.. in which most people party pooped.

I remember that thread...
Well, this time, we just have to not partypoop!
That's a beautiful property, but that price is steep to me. It has nice improvements, but it isn't that much land. It's nearly the same climate and cheap here in the Yucatan -and it's a buyer's market now. I just looked at a real estate site and there were listings for 280 acres w/8 cottages for 70,000US and an undeveloped 103 acres with a cenote for 53,000US. For the less communally-minded, a cute house with a walled lot, pool, well and lots of fruit trees for under 100,000. I know I've seen small farms with off the grid set-ups available at reasonable prices and with less people traveling, there are more eco-hotels listed all the time.
Even with deals available, getting away can be harder than it first seems. I'm not surprised they're having trouble finding a caretaker. I'm occasionally looking for a dog person to stay at our place for a few months and that has proven difficult. There is a beach front apartment available, but people have pets, jobs, family obligations, leases...
Still, the possibilities are endless and a few like-minded people can accomplish a lot. If someone really wants to start something, now is a great time to find a place. I imagine that some sellers would be open to long term leases and other flexible arrangements, especially if their property has been on the market for a long time. There must be other areas with similar markets. Screw the partypoopers. Decide what you need in place and then find it/make it.
yeah, i hate that now is totally the time to buy since i reallly literally have no money...
dustin and i are hoping to (someday) start some kind of health/athletics center and would love to do it in that environment (and for the cheapness), but we'd also like it for the outreach aspect and it would be so much more accessible in the US, so hummm...
I'm sure there are opportunities in the States, I just don't follow real estate there. My folks keep trying to convince me that there are great deals to be had in Florida. :^
I came across these help exchange sites last night. I haven't looked into them yet, but there seemed to be a wide range of opportunities/situations available. Not quite a commune, but it might be a fun way to get hands on experience in a nice location.

I came across this call for volunteers in Costa Rica that reminded me of this thread... https://www.helpx.net/host.asp?hostid=9714&network=9
Just sayin'.
