You are here

where the eff?

most supermarkets that have a natural food section or any hfs...may be labeled tsp or tvp. It either comes in granules (sort of like a ground beef sub) or chunks.

I've seen it in the big cannister things that have like grains and trailmix and things in them. And just randomly in isles at the HFS. I'm sure if you go to any HFS and ask they'll be able to find some for you!

It sounds more mysterious than it is.

Last time I was in AZ I found it at a Mexican grocery store (Food City) in the same section as the spices and dried chilies.  And it was really cheap.

(I stalked your profile.  I've never been to FL but I'd assume there are some Hispanic stores around?)

Here, I find it at my HFS with the flours.  And it's not cheap.

If you have access to  bulk bins..check those. I think at our store, it's in the bins next to the dried pasta, and other dried mixes.

I bought Red Mill's dry granules--they were in with all of the other Red Mill flours (usually in the baking aisle).

this is what I got, it was in the health food section of a regular grocery store, and I must say , I hate it.......it's like extra chewy hamburger

Good to know--that was the first I ever tried. I had it in a chili recipe with lots of beans so "extra-chewy hamburger" was called for.

I'm not a big fan of it either.

Me three.

I bought a thing of it a couple of years ago on the cheap at my HFS for a chili recipe, and never used it again. lol.

I've seen it at the store & was intrigued, but couldn't think of an immediate use for it so I never bought it. Does anyone like it? Or should I just stick with Gimme Lean? Which I got on sale for $2.69 the other day!

I bought a bunch of different shapes of tvp at my local Asian grocery. I got the tiny granules and these big chunks of it. I ground it up in my blender with some spices and stuff and made really yummy meatballs. I don't know where I got the recipe, but if you find tvp, make meatballs!

yeah i was so excited at the amish grocery!  i got lots of cheap extracts and flavorings, and they had a bunch of cheap tubs of spices, bags of beans, etc.  they even had a bobs redmill section but the other stuff was cheaper so i didn't bother with it.  my mom had to drag me out..
