There's a mouse in my house. What should I do?

I just saw it. It was in the kitchen and then ran over into the living room (where I am). I am afraid of scaring it.
What do they eat? All we really have is fruit. Should I worry about it or will it just go away. Hummm....
My cat just found a baby mouse outside by my neighbor's cabin and crippled it, then lost interest. :(
I haven't see our mouse (Zach) in quite some time....I wonder if he's still around...Andy claims he's seen poops recently, but I haven't
I found some mouse poop in the cupboard under the sink in our kitchen on the weekend for the first time, cleaned it all up and kind of optimistically hoped he might have already moved on...
This morning I spotted him running across the kitchen bench so my husband and I chased him back and forward across the kitchen for a few minutes till we eventually cornered him, threw a towel over him and scooped him up. Poor little guy, he was shaking pretty bad but my husband took him up the road and put him down in some long grass.
I like mice, and this one is cute, but I really don't want him living in our kitchen!!
Write a Dr. Seuss book about it.
5/5
I think our mouse finally moved on...or died. We haven't seen traces of him in several months. Andy is still afraid to turn on the light in the kitchen - he expects to see him run across the counter...I should play a prank on him someday...
Im wagering the mouse makes his way into your packed goods and travels with you from now until forever.

I dont have anything against mice or other until they start destroying stuff.
I have three cats, no problem. I did find a 'pinky' a few years ago, the cats
roughed him up. I try offering him food and water, to no avail. rip see you
sooner than later:)
In my unfinished crawlspace area/basement, the old insulation was falling down, was installed wrong in many places, gross from getting wet over the years, and FILLED with mouse turds. So, last summer I had all new insulation put in and all visible cracks and holes in the foundation sealed. Over the last few months I noticed that the mouse turds have returned and now adorn my new insulation. The pee puddles on the ground surfaces are what REALLY bother me though. I saw one of those last week and thought, “That’s it!!” I put one of those live mouse cubes down there, and the next morning there was a deer mouse in it. I looked at it and thought, “Hmmm….I just hope this thing doesn’t have an active nest going with little babies anywhere.” I tried to find out breeding times online, but the first site I visited said that deer mice can reproduce any time of year. I briefly checked for nipples & didn’t see any, so I took my tenant to the other side of a stream that borders my property so that it could not return. I cleaned out the cube and reset it. Another mouse the next day. Same routine- didn’t look like a mother, so across the creek it went.
Wouldn’t you know, DAMN IT, yesterday I walked into my basement and there were 3 dead baby deer mice in different places. It looked like they were wandering around (probably starving!) looking for mom and just dropped dead after days of this. DAMN IT!! I felt so bad. If I would have known I had a mama, I would have left her there. Just bad luck/timing I guess.
:(
Sorry to hear about the dead baby mice. You did what you could.
It probably won't make you feel better, but once after releasing a live-trapped mouse, a hawk swooped down and caught the mouse! I was like 5 feet away! I felt so bad. But, I guess hawks have to eat too... :-[ Since then we do try to release any mice in an area with more ground cover to give them a better shot (although hopefully there won't be many more!).

Oh wow, what are the odds of that!! On the bright side, that’s a pretty rare sight to see a hawk actually taking its prey- lucky you!
