My dearest vegwebbers,
All of the general harassment I've been getting in the "aimless chitchat" thread has brought me to this post. So.... How about it?! Write down your gift exchange theme ideas here. After I've gotten a bunch I'll make a poll to determine the type of exchange we should have. ;)b
Much love from your designated organizer,
LLG
PS: Future-land VWer's; I'm sorry that I am a day late for you guys. :bear2:
we keeping same rules? i recall a minimum post count of like 1000, but i think exceptions were made and it all worked out.
i am already formulating evil plans, as i gotta start on something before school...
Yeah, you should probably put rules up so that people who have not been around a long time know what's what.
like you =)
it's cool, if there's a 1000 post minimum, just spam the boards 264 times. I suggest posts of "that's a great idea!," "thanks!," "that's awful!", and "how cute!" That covers 80% of posts, i believe.
Yes, like me! That's why I didn't comment for a while because I wasn't sure who was allowed to join. I guess I could play the word association game all day straight to bump my post count up, lol.
Gift exchange rules (boosted from another site by AC and edited a little bit) :)
1. You must have been active on the forums for at least 6 months OR have 1,000 posts. Don't pout; if you've been here awhile you're more likely to send out your package. Also, if you signed up six months ago and have only posted like ten times, forget it.
2. Don't flake on your partner or you'll get banned until you send their package.
3. Flat rate boxes are your bestest friend usually, but unless your craft is particularly heavy it shouldn't be necessary. It still recommend priority mail for speed! YOU MUST HAVE TRACKING ON YOUR PACKAGE!!
4. Your package must be on par with the theme of the exchange.
5. Bring it! Don't send out something crappy!
I think a numerical price range (such as $15-20 sans postage) is absolutely necessary. I know people get pissy about the post requirements but what it says is true--people are more likely to follow through if they stick around. People who are new and really want to participate will have another opportunity once they accumulate more posts.
*In regards to the post count..... I think there is a little wiggle room. I've been on the boards for over 3yrs and don't have 1,000 yet.... Trust me, participation will be based on if you are known or not.

uhhhhh.... now you do!! : )
Good rules though! : )

Shit.... well, you get the point. :)
haha all good. It was true not long ago but you've been speeding up recently!
in regards to a theme, would the ideas so far discussed fall under "back to school"? book exchange, change from summer to fall, etc. the dates for read a book day (or whatever it was) and labor day are pretty close too.
mostly an umbrella theme though... 'cause only students and cool people would enjoy cute pencils and erasers.
a book-themed package could be like a book (duh), bookmark, tea/coffee, biscotti. ok, maybe that's a nerd-who-lives-in-a-cafe package, but close.
uS is an example
Lol shuddup.
Schoolish is kind of what I'm thinking. I think its something that can kind of bend from person to person. But still book related?
I like the book idea. BECAUSE IT WAS MINEE. I demand all credit.
Not really, but I do think it sounds like fun.
September 16th - Collect rocks day (Mail a rock with your package!) (maybe I just like that because I'm into soil and rocks and things..)
I like it....add a rock just to make the postage stupid expensive!!
also, if it ends up autumn-themed, I reserve the right to taunt you all with Spring/Summery themed things instead.
this!!!!! (except I'm crap at gifts and so would not stick to any theme whatsoever)
Future wins. Yes it does :P
yeah, I'll join the future club!
mostly an umbrella theme though... 'cause only students and cool people would enjoy cute pencils and erasers.
ha...I thought you were actually recommending an umbrella theme for a second there!! Although I could do with an umbrella.....
*Ahem* I am not a student but I still love cute pencils and erasers and such like.
well, that makes you a cool person then. also, you can send a tiny rock. just don't mix it in with any pastries... that'd be one crunchy biscotti.
Take the middle route and send rock candy!
You people are so easily distracted! Write down MORE ideas so I can make a poll. Freaking goobers! :)
okay. off the top of my head:
sex
games
travel
those probably won't work so well. but at least they're ideas. or maybe just my favorite things?
I'm all for sending people travel sex games! :D (provided I will be able to do this)
What about?
Rainbows- Idk, send different colord things??? So you're sending people raindbows through the mail.
Asian themed stuff?
Earth/Environment
Animal theme
Really, I'm loving the book/biscotti/tea-coffee thingy idea though!
Edit: The asian theme gave me an idea, what about ethnic/national, etc theme? Like you send people stuff that represents other countries, etc? I hope you understand what I'm talking about.
ooh!!! i like the ethnic idea!!! like i would so send cuban stuff to my person. lol. people can just send stuff from their heritage or something.
i like
maybe like a local-themed thing. Not necessarily basing the whole package off of it, but including something that's unique/known in your area, either by state, city, neighborhood (e.g. someone living in a farming community could send locally produced dry fruit, or someone living in/near an ethnic neighborhood can send something cool from there, or someone who lives near the beach sends something beach-y). I like the Asian idea myself, but that's way easier for someone like me in a city with that kind of stuff than someone in white people land. *
The combo of cafe nerd + local item/s makes this sound like a yippy (yuppy/hippy), eco-chique exchange.
the rainbow thing sounds cool too.
or maybe since it's a summer/fall thing, fall-type colors, based on what's around then? pumpkin, cranberry, blueberry/raspberry dark green, autumn leaf type colors. Ok, that's too many colors to really be a theme... whatever.
*no offense to the white people in white people land.
oh yeah. heritage works too.
... though i'm not sure what i would send. The US is full of Italian and English things to begin with. I would send tea and biscuits, but then I'd be stereotyping "my people." But that conveniently works with the cafe nerd idea...
oh, I like the local idea....like getting stuff from the farmers markets in your neighborhood - cuz I know a ton of wacky, awesome stuff I could send!
I don't know much about my heritage though....what do Norwegians like??
