Natural bath and beauty products
So I came across this website today - Skin Deep: Cosmetic safety reviews (http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com/). Maybe others have heard of? It is a non-profit that looks at all the chemicals and such that are used in bath and beauty products. Personally, I always knew basic things like aluminum in deoderant is bad for you, but I had NO idea that so many toxic chemicals are common in everyday products! As a mostly-vegan (getting there!) I take a lot of care with what goes IN my body but it never occurred to me to look closely at what goes ON it!
So anyway, now I'm all freaked out (!) and I figure it wouldn't hurt to make the switch to more natural products, especially with things I use daily like facial soap and moisturizers. My neighborhood Whole Foods has a million products but I don't even know where to begin.... just wondered if anyone here has any recommendations?
Thanks!!
Castile soap, known in Spain as Marseilles soap for some odd reason, is made of olive oil, often recycled olive oil here in Spain. In the English speaking world there's a brand called Sunlight soap, which you can use to wash your clothes, your body or your face. It's very gentle and smells nice. Here, the clothes-cleaning one is green and the body one is pale tan. But you can use them both interchangeably.
There's a recipe category on VW for home-made ecofriendly cleaning and bath/beauty products.
Knowing absolutely nothing about the topic, I am wondering how good the product known as Soap Nuts is: http://greenandnutty.com.au/
They are billed as natural, hypo-allergenic, dermatologically sound, cost-effective.
