my family won't LET me make my mom anything for mother's day. wtf?!

For every birthday or holiday I always make something vegan so i can contribute and today my sisters were talking about cooking my mom breakfast and i said "cool! im gonna make some vegan pancakes!" and they started yelling at me saying that its imposing my beliefs on other people. it's really not, i just wanted to do something nice for my mom. why do they hate me so much?

fuck them.  make what you want.  their food isnt any more important just because it's closer to what your mom might make.  it's your moms day & im sure she'll appreciate your gesture.  promise your sisters that you wont make them anything on 'bitchy sisters day"

good luck!  and you should totally make the vegan praline french toast from the eat air blog and blow their junky non-vegan food out of the water!

(ive yet to make it but it looks fantastic)  (and easy) (and it's a paula dean recipe - veganized!) (how can they top that?!)

Serve it with a big old pitcher of reality juice...it's not about them, it's about your mom. That's what they can't stand...I bet they both sing in the key of ME all the time!

yeah, i get the same thing around the holidays from my non-vegan parents and brother. i often get the "don't make THAT!" so, if no one wants to eat my vegan treats, than, fuckit, more for me!!!

I hate that whole "you're forcing your beliefs" nonsense! I've gotten that one from family (and others). Because I'm the one who does the cooking and my husband's a meat eater.
(Actually my husband loves my cooking and feels much healthier now that he eats my food and eats much less meat. He often eats veggie even away from home!)
I also get lots of people who think I'm "corrupting" my daughter because I've "forced" my veg*nism  on her.
It drives me crazy that they don't consider it forcing their beliefs on their kids or families when the serve them meat! What's the difference? Oh yeah, it's considered abnormal to not eat meat.

As for serving people at gatherings or spacial occasions, as long as it is something you feel people will enjoy that's all that matters.

And maybe, leaving off "vegan", or "veggie", etc. when you say what you made or are planning to make might help to sound less "intimidating". Like saying Blueberry Pancakes instead of Vegan Blueberry Pancakes.

Of course if anyone asks you can tell them, or maybe save that info for after wards - then people can be like, "Wow! That was Vegan??!"

I don't know, just some thoughts.....
