Welcome wheres_the_beets (henceforth referred to as WTB). Perhaps we shall meet one day! Yeah, I just talked to a friend who was in St.Louis for break and she was laughing at our snowy weather and was bragging about her 50 degree weather and not having to wear gloves or even a coat most days.

yeah, it was nice here for a while (and still isn't all that horrid again yet), but we had a few days before xmas where it was in the low teens and single digits. a couple of nights the "real feel" temp was around -10! i suspect the temps will start dropping again soon... but we're generally better overall than chicago. especially where the snow's concerned. i hate winter (and summer!) in the midwest! :P

I just stumbled on this thread and I'm so excited! I live about an hour and a half west of Chicago (not sure if we're classified as suburbs?) surrounded by farmland. I attend NIU and I hate the weather here, so I'm hoping to move somewhere with a better climate once I graduate.

I live about 25 minutes south of Rockford. I'm actually there quite often because stores where I live do not carry a lot of vegan-friendly items.

Woooo! I do most of my shopping at woodmans, they have the best selection of vegan stuff around here. Do you live in De Kalb or just go to school there?

I live in DeKalb, actually grew up here. It's cheaper to go to school here than have to pay for extras like a dorm and such. I love woodmans. Even before I was vegan, my boyfriend and I would drive to rockford to shop there. It may seem extreme, but the overall selection in the grocery stores here leaves something to be desired.

I lived in DeKalb for a while - just moved from there 2 years ago and now live in the northern suburbs. I went to NIU for a few years to get 2 masters degrees. Do you ever shop at Duck Soup Coop? I used to get stuff from there that I couldn't get anywhere else in that area. Would do in a pinch.
I looked into duck soup coop when I first became vegan, but then got caught up in school and forgot about it. I'm so glad you reminded me of them! :)

I have not been there before, I have not been out to deKalb in over a year. I will have to go out there sometime and check it out. It sounds groovy.
