You are here

i don't know where else to go.

So I lost my job a couple of weeks ago and my husband just got shorted about $150 dollars on his paycheck.

Our rent is due.

I don't know how we're going to pay it...much less eat or afford gas for him to continue going to work or for me to go the doctor for this bad uti or to get my birth control refilled....

He's going to try to get it sorted out, but i really want to cry right now, and I have no one to talk to.

Thanks for listening.

:( I'm sooo sorry. I'm sure things will find a way to work out. Keep your head up!

Do you have any family or friends who could help you out just until you get a new job? It sucks to owe people money, but if everyone lent a little bit for rent this time and you find a job- any job at all- really soon, you could probably pay them back pretty quickly. I'm sure your husband will sort out his paycheck problem and hopefully things will be better shortly. I'm sorry you have to go through this :( I hope your uti gets better fast! uck. hang in there.

Call 411

It is a hotline the gov't has set up around the country to help people find financial help/aid during this recession to prevent things like eviction/utilities turned off/etc....also contact a Planned Parenthood in your area for discounted/free contraceptives and probably discount visit/drugs for the uti....

Sorry I don't have anymore to offer!

yeah, our "planned parenthood" office shut down like.... 2 years ago. Really pisses me off.

Thanks for the hotline though.  I completely forgot about rent assistance, we have an office here that does that. I'm hopin we will qualify for food stamps too.

This was supposed to be a full time job at almost $12 an hour and he's just been getting shafted (pardon my language) since he got there. cutting hours, cutting whole work days, and now trying to say he didn't work what he did.

We're hoping he's out of there and in a better job soon.

oh, Fufu. :(

I wish I could offer something more constructive, but.... just know that I feel for You, and I really, *really* hope You and the hubby find some relief soon.

Hang in there, sweetie!

I'm sorry.

1.  Do you qualify for unemployment benefits?
2.  Do you qualify for Medicaid?
3.  Do you qualify for food stamps?
4.  Do you have any bills that you could float in order to pay rent now and pay those bills with the next check?
5.  Eat beans & rice and lentils & onions.  It's cheap and the fiber will fill you up.
6.  Does your husband have a set schedule?  Could he look for a carpool partner and take turns driving?  (Either at work or on craigslist or somewhere.)
7.  If none of that works and you can't afford where you're living, do you have a backup plan (friends, family)?

Lots and lots of water for that UTI! Bananas and cranberries if you have them or can poach some off a friend. I don't know how it works in America but is your husband a union member or does he have a representative he can see about his work situation? If he has records of when he's worked and what he's been paid I imagine there's somebody who can help him get it straightened out.

I don't have much to add, except I feel your pain.  I've been so poor lately too.  One thing I do occasionally is sell stuf on ebay or craigslist.

You can try an OTC product called AZO.  I think that is what amymylove is talking about.  I've used that before and it has worked.  I've also used Uristat.

Okay update:

They are still looking into his missing hours.  He was able to pinpoint which days they didn't pay him for and has them checking into whether or not they have him under the wrong name for those days (our last name is "Arnsdorf". Not complicated but you'd be amazed at what people do in their heads when they see it written).

They should be able to verify he was in the building when he said  he was because of his keycard/witnesses. So we're hopin they are gonna cut him a check for the discrepancy, but if not our landlord should be able to wait on part of the rent.

Also, they know how angry he's been about getting shorted on hours (aka getting 24 hour workweeks instead of the promised and contracted 40) and yesterday sat down with him so he could plan out how much overtime he wants next week.  That rocks.

I'm also might be getting an under the table job at a local thai restaurant that will bring in just enough money to buy groceries.

I think we're going to hold off on housing assistance and medicaid (since his insurance is supposed to kick in in early september), and I remembered last night that I have 1 free visit left for my college clinic from where I was a student.  They'll see you 1 time after you graduate, so I can go there for this uti if it doesn't clear up.

Also I took a walk with a friend last night and I guess her boss bought like 10 pounds of garden tomatoes so I will be coming into some of those shortly as well

Some people are still going to go without getting paid for a while, but they're just the greedy greasy money grubbing institutions of the man anyways. (student loan people *hiss* and cell phone)

Thanks for all of the advice.  I'm gonna log it all away in a document in case we ever find ourselves in this situation and people aren't willing to realize they f*>?ed up.

I feel loved that you all care so much.  It's been really hard since college, 95% of my friends have moved away and lost touch.  It's nice having somewhere to go. *HUG*

I'm happy to hear it's looking up.  I think the worst part is not having an action plan.  Now that you have something to work for/pursue (investigating the missing hours, overtime, an under-the-table job, and a student health clinic visit) it will keep getting better.

yeah.... It never is as bad as I think it is, but it's scary getting a check that's only about $50 than the rent and it has to last 2 weeks, you know?

Yeah there's always that scary moment when EVERYTHING HAPPENS and you wonder how actual real adults cope with stuff. But we're always here to give advice, sympathy and/or sex jokes :)
