i badly need a new coat for winter, and im really in love with pea coats..you know the ones with buttons on them, like these:

or

problem is, theyre all made out of wool :( since i'll have it for a long time, should i just get a wool one? or do non wool ones exist? would a second hand one be better?
le sigh.
Meh. I wouldn't be comfortable with a wool one. Sadly, I bought I wool pea coat the winter before I went vegan. I still have it stored away. It was nice too. Nice, aesthetically, but not nice from the point of view of the sheep.
I'm not sure what the options are for vegan peacoats. I think they are slim. Maybe you could find something with a similar "personality" to it online? Like, in online vegan stores? I'm not sure. :-\
i did a google, and i found this:

but...um..i think it's hideous haha :P
target has cotton polyester ones, but i dont know how warm theyd be..i'll have to check it out..
I have a corduroy pea coat from L.L.Bean... but they don't seem to have it anymore =(
It is pretty warm, but I don't find the pea coat cut very flattering =/
I have also been searching for a coat because my current coat is filled with down. I found some nice ones here: http://www.alternativeoutfitters.com/apparel/outerwear/jackets-coats.aspx
I really love this one:

oh wow!
they have a lot of cool stuff.. thanks ac! (:
Yeah! Oh man..I really love that coat..I want to get it..but it's a bit of money...I'll go look at it some more..
I hope you find one! I wanna know what you like. :>
I've seen cotton ones-the one i want is 200 dollars, so i won't even bother. But I've seen some at TJ Maxx. Fleece sweatshirty ones and a cotton one.
target one:

it comes in white too..i think id rather have a black one, but this one is cheap. i'll have to see if my mom will pay for a new coat. if she does, i want this one:

from ac's link..not pea coat, but i want it hehe
or this one (a pea coat, also from alternative outfitters):

siiigh. so many choices.
Yeah, I like that rainbow one too (don't really care for the fake fur thing, though), and I like the black one!
the hood/fur part is removable. im not a huge fan of the fur either. i kinda feel like wearing fake fur is also promoting real fur..i dunno. maybe ill buy the target coat for myself and ask my mom for the rainbow one (:
I'd remove the "fur". I once got a jacket because it was warm/cheap, but it was made for men (with pleats on the back and shaping/elastic-ish stuff where a man's waist would be). I took the manliness out of it with my mad sewing skills though. :>
eek my mommy won't pay :'(
i'm not sure if i can afford it right now. siiiigh. i'll ask about christmas and let her know that theyre going fast ;)b
i do have a coat already, but its a wintery coat, like poofy and i want something nice to wear with nice clothes.
Pangea has a non-wool pea coat on sale for $129!
i have a corduroy one i bought back in *gasp* '97. i got it from delias. anyways, it's quite delightful.
they were really 'in' when i got it. i'm feeling really old now that i've owned and worn something long enough that it's coming back into style. :'(
pshh.
i dont think pea coats ever really go out of style. in seventh grade (umm..hm. that would be 2002-2003?) i remember all the girls getting pea coats. except me because they were expensive :p
Can you sew? Buy some heavy weight vegan fabric and make your own!
-cheap
-personalized
-feeling of accomplishment
;)b
I accidentally modified my old post...instead of posting a new one. So, I'll just do both!
I just bought this!
I got my coat today! I LOVE it. The whole process was great. They replied to my inquiry about more sizes, more sizes were available very quickly, I ordered, got a tracking number, it arrived on the delivery date, it was packaged beautifully, it has cute little tags, it looks great, it seems like a great, warm coat, and I love it! :)
I think maybe they run a bit big. I got the junior's large..and I was afraid it might be tight/small...just b/c it's a junior's, but it's a tiny bit big. It's not like the WARMEST coat, ever..but it's pretty light-weight, and I think it's warm enough. I can always layer. I recommend the site
(alternativeoutfitters.com), and the coat.

Hey AC, do you mind if I ask what size you normally wear on top? I am seriously considering this coat, but I want to make sure I get the right size. BUT I will definitely definitely have to layer, b/c my body temp often drops a few degrees in the winter (don't ask). On cold days I will probably have to wear a thermal, a long sleeve shirt, a sweater, and a coat.

I don't mind! I buy a large, but I probably wear a medium. I don't really like tight/short things. I probably wear like a 10 on top? I'm 5'81/2", with normal length arms..and the sleeves are a bit long on me. The size on the coat is a L junior's 11/13. So, I guess it depends what junior's size you normally wear. I don't think it's THAT much bigger than normal..or maybe I'm just smaller now. Oh god. I'm not helping at all. If you want to layer..just go ahead and get the size you normally wear! :o
