Hooray for promptly delivered 2008 W-2's!! I filed my taxes last night! 8) :smileteeth:
::EDIT::
I guess I should have specified what DH and I plan to do with our return! Whoops! ::) We'll be paying off the credit card with small balance. Then with the remainder of the cash I think we might invest in a used 2 seater scooter. It's an investment that will pay for itself in the next 2-1/2yrs we are here and then we can just sell it when we leave. ;)b
I've got mine but I'm still waiting on my statement from Scott Trade. I'm going to use it to pay off my moving expenses.
We usually spend ours. The rule is that it must be spent on some home improvement project, or new (needed) stuff for the house. (Last year we used it to pay some on new living room furniture.)
I think I'll wait & see if we will actually get money back this year. Seems like it's a roll of the dice each year. I'd like to say we will put it in savings, but I really would like a new kitchen floor.
A little of each. First priority is to pay off the credit cards (of which there really isn't much to do). Second is to save. We also usually take just a bit and do something fun--lately it's been something as simple as hitting up the irish pub next door to our tax place. Nothing extravagant.
I don't have much money taken out of my check for taxes, so I usually end up with a little over a grand as a refund.
I treat myself to something and I save the rest to pay for 1) my fall camping trip or 2) my car insurance.
This year I'm going to get an All American pressure canner.
I'm looking at the All American because it's a metal to metal seal and so I won't have to worry about replacing the rubber ring (as there won't be one).
Their most popular model is a 21.5 quart canner (19 pint jars, 7 quart jars). I'm tempted to get that large one, but I don't have a garden, so it might be overkill. I'm leaning toward the 15.5 quart canner (10 pint jars, 7 quart jars). It's only $15 more for the 21.5 quart canner, but I don't want to store more than I have to.
Really, the 10.5 quart canner (7 pint jars, 4 quart jars) would almost do. Before I place my order I'm going to go through canner recipes and look at the yield of the recipes I'm likely to make. Most of them only make up to about 6 pints.
eta:
21.5 quart: $209.99
15.5 quart: $195.99
10.5 quart: $182.99
I will put any refund we get towards paying down the principal on our mortgage. That is my main priority, to be debt free!
I am not sure what we are going to do with our refund. We are probably going to get back all the taxes my husband paid because of the adoption credit so it should be a pretty deceit size. We are probably going to use it for upgrades on the house or save part of it in my IRA.
Katzenfreund, excellent plan. We always pay extra each mth and got used to not having a mortgage before we moved.
Electronically ez filed my taxes on the 13th, refund was deposited in my account on the 20th.
My return will be a whopping...wait for it... ONE DOLLAR. I think it started as $1.34 or something but I filed it online and it automatically rounded down. :'( But I signed up for direct deposit! I'm claiming that sh*t!! ;)b
This is the first year we aren't getting very much money back.....supposedly we made more money this year.....sure didn't feel like it. Damn Andy and his new job! :)
I was planning on getting my back tattoo and Andy wanted a new lawnmower, but now we won't have enough cash for both.......I guess I'll have to actually pay for my tattoo myself...ugh....
We paid off the credit card that had our infertility services on it. My oldest son is now officially PAID FOR!! He's 4 by the way. The rest went to replacing our 25 year old stove and fridge that died at the same time. Thanks to Craig's List we go two practically new high end appliances for $1000. Much better than 2300 retail.
Now we wait untill next year's returns. Sigh.
I can tell you what I WISH my boyfriend would spend HIS tax refund on:
A FREAKING ENGAGEMENT RING!
It doesn't have to be big or anything.... but I'd really like to move things along here. I ain't gettin' any younger (no matter how young I LOOK)
'what (...) plan to do with return'
had had to adjust my withholding for this year and have just had the stuff gone over; will be getting a refund which will simply be put into a previously established CD/IRA type account ...
