Pizza Cheese Sauce

I went to this vegan restaurant and I ordered pizza.
But on the pizza not only was there amazing veggies and stuff, but there was this like creamy tofu cheese sauce. Sort of like melted cheese. But not. So I don't know if anyone has ever made it before but I would really like to know about it!
Thanks.

I'm sort of a newbie, but I'll bite ( ;) ;) to all on the flyby thread, lol)

Do a recipe search by catagory and look under 'Dairy Alternatives' or follow this handy little link to 'Cheese' recipes: http://vegweb.com/index.php?board=284.0

What was the name of the restaurant? Look up their website (if they have one)  go to their menu and see what they say it is exactly

Sounds like it could be a nutritional yeast sauce (OMG! I think I just feel victim to the flyby---OH NO!)

I can't believe it hasn't come up yet but dragonfly's uncheese sauce is remarkable. There have been whole threads dedicated to it.

I now make mine w/ half cashews and half oats. I also decrease the amount of garlic powder so it can be used w/ more recipes. You can always add more later. I am only feeding two people here but I still always make up a full batch and keep it in the fridge. It lasts for months and then is so easy to whip some up for supper.

Enjoy :)

I haven't tried that that recipe -- my daughter has a peanut allergy and I'm deathly afraid to give her cashews  :-\. We really like the nutritional yeast recipes, though!!

You could try to make it w/ all oats instead of cashews.

I don't have any cheese sauces for pizza that any one in our family has ended up loving. :(

I know this isn't what you asked for but I have been planning on posting this.
We just make it sauce only but adding olive oil to the sauce gives it a rich flavor and makes it nummy enough to eat alone.

1 can Tomato Sauce or Paste (if I use paste I add some water)
1 tsp fennel seed
1 tsp oregano
1 T garlic powder
1 tsp basil
2 tsp olive oil

The longer it sits before you spread it on the dough the better... even overnight gives it a really good flavor.

If you try some cheese toppings come back and let us know about them brunet.xox!

I haven't tried it on pizza, but for stuffed shells/manacotti/lasagna I put tofu in a processor with FYH mozz, nut yeast, a little soymilk, garlic, onion, & a mix of herbs. Its really good & no omnis can tell that there isnt real cheese in it.

Hiimkelsi, I love the bare foot in that photo!!

Like someone before mentioned, we use Dragonfly's cheese sacue mix. It's wonderful. It you want a real taste treat, mix a batch of pesto in the cheese sauce & spread on pizza. It is sooooooooooooo good!  :o
