Looking for the perfect mayo

Does anybody make their own?  I have recently become dissatisfied with all of my store bought options.  Not sure why (tastes change?).  I've decided the Spectrum light is flavorless goo.  I'm bored with Naysoya.  I have plenty of options to buy in my town, but meh....I'm not liking any. 

I've made a batch of the cashew mayo from this site http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=6986.0 and it was OK.  Not really mayo-ey, but a nice spread. I think I might have liked it more if I hadn't added sweetener (agave).  I think the cashews are sweet enough.  I've tried Bryanna's as well http://www.bryannaclarkgrogan.com/page/page/661699.htm and I wasn't wild about it either.  I like the taste of tofu, but I could taste each ingredient individually and it was just....*smacks*  not right. 

Part of the issue is a lack of a Vitamix, but I would be willing to sacrifice texture for taste, if I could hit on the right combination.  I've read through most of the comments in the mayo section for tips and am at a stand still.

Anybody have a recipe they love?  Or a brand they swear by?  Tis the season for potato salads and chickn salads (funny how crumbled tofu as a chicken sub is perfectly fine for me, but the mayo has to be just right).

I make my mayo from scratch, using this recipe and tweaking it according my taste (which means I use 1/2 cup of soymilk plus and vinegar instead of lemon juice and a bit more than asked for, also a bit more mustard... and occasionally some garlic, too)

you must watch out for the kind of milk you use, the first time I made it with Alpro Soja light which is sweetened and salted... big mistake *ick* now I only use soymilk without added sugar and salt or homemade soymilk (I guess you could make this mayo using any kind of milk alternative, but I haven't tried it yet, only with a mix of rice and soy milk and that did fine)

it's easy, fast, - and cheaper than store-bought mayo :)

i found this mayo made from sunflower seeds at the grocery store once. the stuff was great!

Thanks for this.  I confess, I've never noticed guar flour at the store, HFS or otherwise.  I did a quick google search and came up with a limited bit of info.  I'll look for it locally, might it be at a specialty grocery?

Thanks for all of the ideas!  The cashew mayo that I made last week (from my first post) improved greatly upon sitting in the fridge.  Now I have a lot of new things to consider...yum...

oddly enough I found it at first at a shop (sorry, I live in Germany, so I don't know if tha info is all that helpful) where you can buy ingredients for DIY make-ups, creams and lotions...

uhoh,googling I just found out that it's called guar GUM (powder) in the US (and most of the world, but Germany  :-\ ),- maybe that will help you ?
Over here in Germany I understand I could also get it from the chemist's and I've seen itat an organic grocery store, - over here it's where you might find agar agar, arrowroot flour and the likes?

My favorite mayo is Wildwood's Garlic Aioli (which I think is called Zesty Aioli now). It's in a smallish jar with a green lid in the fridge section of good alt/health stores. The texture is perfect Best-Foods/Hellman's-ish texture and the garlic is divine!  My friends (okay, me too) have been known to just eat it with a spoon. *blushes*

That stuff is seriously effing delicious. I usually have this and FYH Vegenaise in my fridge, when I don't want that garlicky spread :)
