Curry Poll

I decided to make a Thai curry today and realised I only have the red. I actually prefer the green, tho red is fine too.

Which curry do you prefer, if you do? And what do you put in it?

i really love all curry, but those are my favorite  :)>>>

Yabbit is going to hate this talk in her poll, but I see what you're saying, hesp! I think someone has posted that picture here, before? I remember seeing it somewhere. Weirdo.

Hahaha I read the quiz options and after  "thai red curry", "thai green curry" etc I read "hate curry" as "curry brewed from hate, with hate as the major ingredient"...then I read down and realised it was supposed to mean "I hate curry"  :-[

I don't hate curry, I love curry. All curry. Will have to vote Indian though, because those are my "comfort curries" (Curry brewed from comfort).

(Curried hummus? Could it be done?)

it can and has.

I'd eat curried hummus out of a dirty butthole.
That's how good curried hummus sounds to me.

Oh oh oh oh red curry from Pams Real Thai on 49th st nyc!
Even though not completely veg*an they have a decent clean veg menu portion.
I think the prices are fair in comparison to the cost. I always leave full...
Not to mention they have some hot tattooed waitstaff! :)>>>

Friends,

The word CURRY is derived from south Indian word "Curry" with same spelling . In Tamil language of Madras province, Curry also denotes meat.
The Britishers were so much taken in by taste of Meat curry that they adopted it lock stock and barrel and spread it throughout the world.

Here is the http://www.hemant-trivedis-cookery-corner.com/powder/madras-curry.html CURRY POWDER link with small story.

I love all curries. My website has many veg curry recipes. Try them out.

I like Thai green best because in my experience it's been more coconutty and less spicy. But I've not had much luck finding a vegetarian green curry paste and I'm not so keen that I want to buy a metric ton of ingredients to make my own :(

this looks like an easy recipe? i've never made my own green curry paste but i have made my own masaman curry paste.

Hespy that looks great, but unfortunately I don't have a food processor! Plus it's just me to cook for so I think I'd be eating green curry for a week. Might try that when I'm at my parents' house and I can nick their shiny appliances though :)

Oh Catski - I just found thai green curry paste in my new local Oriental food store.  PM me if you want me to post you some.
It's the first time I've cooked with thai green curry paste at home and OMFG it is good good good.
I have reread the ingresients about 20 times since I bought it on Saturday in case I have missed the really obvious 'shrimp' or 'entire cow' ingredient, but nope, it is definitely veggie.

Back to Yabbit's poll - any curry really but Indian curry (especially lentil based) are my fav, just coz I'm mre familiar with them.

if you don't have a food processor, you can use a mortar & pestle (not like you'd have that, but they're fun). And I think curry paste can be frozen...

FB - I've kind of always wanted a pestle and mortar, weird as that sounds and infrequently as I know I'd use it.

Shelloid - seriously? That would be amazing! I'm PMing you now!

Indian curries FTW! :D

I've been known to buy them from restaurants, as heat & eat packages, as curry pastes to make up with tomato/coconut, or make them from scratch with powdered spices, or from whole spices toasted and ground in my mortar & pestle and simmered slowly with onions and tomatoes. 8-)

I like certain 'authentic' dishes i.e. spice blends and their traditional pairings - for example, aloo gobi, dal tadka, yadayada. Howeber, I also like to shake things up and muck about with whatever tastes great - for example, tonight I will be making butternut vindaloo. :P Yumbles.

FTR: I would like to point out that I HATE CURRY POWDER with the fire of a thousand chilies. :boooo:  ;D ;)

Heli, I'm with you, particularly the anonymous "curry powder" they sell in the HFS and is served in our cheaper Chinese restaurants. That one IS laden with E-102 and gives me a migraine and a coated tongue. I found that out twice, never touched it again.

Here's a funny thing. I want to like cilantro (fresh green coriander) and can't. I do. not. taste the tartness, I taste soapy cat pee. (The way cat pee smells). But I l-o-v-e cardamom. Now, the friend who raves about cilantro and keeps telling me, "What you got must not have been fresh, real fresh green coriander is wonderful" can't bear cardamom in anything. She has a radar for it and can smell one speck of it in a vat of food a mile off. Does anyone think there is a relationship between hate one and love the other?

You've engaged my curiosity. As a coriander-leaf hater (which comes naturally to some, I guess) do you also hate the taste of the seeds (the powder)? Also, I'm thinking it's odd that you like Thai green curries, since the paste often (always??) contains the seeds, leaves and sometimes the roots of the plant! ??? Ain't it funny how our tastebuds are wired? some dislikes are forever, and some... well, tastes can change, as I bet we've all experienced in going veg*n. :)

No, coriander seed and powder are fine. Maybe she's right and I'm just not getting it fresh. Maybe I need to try growing my own and see. In a pot on the windowsill.

I despise cilantro and coriander, so I bet I shouldn't even try the green curry paste.....right?
I almost bought some yesterday at Super-Target.
