Club Vitamix!!!!
Here's a thread to post vitamix recipes, success stories, and even things you don't like about the Vitamix. If you don't have one, feel free to lurk and maybe you'll be convinced to get one.
So far, I my favorite thing I have made is Orange Sorbet. (oranges, sugar, ice). It made so much and I put leftovers in the fridge. In the morning it was liquid and tasted like Orange Julius!
Here's something I don't like: I made hummus and it was really hard to get it all out from under the blades. Am i missing something here? It seriously took me like 10 minutes and I still didn't get all of it. I just gave up.
The hummus was very creamy like peanut butter but not like in real Mediterranean Restaurants. My sister said try removing the skin from the chic peas first!
I do not have the dry grinder blades. Do any of you? Is it worth getting?
Tonight its chocolate peanut butter icecream using coconut milk.
mmm whirled humans.... *looks around guilty* I mean hummus! yeah, thats it. haha
I use a hard plastic spatula when digging hummus and other thick consistency items from the bottom of the vitamix. While the blades do scrape the spatula, it has yet to slice deep enough to damage the integrity of it. Though I think the best tool for that job is the handle end of a long wooden spoon. It is small enough to dislodge things without getting stuck under the blade. Plus when it is too cut up to do much good, replacing it is much easier than finding that near perfect silicone spat.
Things I like/things I don't like--about Vitamix
I LOVE how the machine works! It's fantastic. I made pizza sauce from scratch, tomatoes, everything--threw it in the Vitamix & voila!--there it was. So I love that it works so well & you can blend things like that quickly, easily, successfully.
Disappointment--there aren't recipes out there to take full advantage of the Vitamix. I'm not a figure it out yourself person. I don't have that capability. So I rely on what recipes I find. They have a recipe book, but what I've tried from there wasn't very good--at least the soups were horrible. Smoothies--I didn't need recipes for those, but that seems to be the focus when I say I need recipes.
I think that there need to be more recipes for it for people like me--step by step type. Like can you make mashed potates in it? I need step by step instructions--how long exactly to turn it on, at what speed exactly, so that it would be mashed consistency vs pureed. And the same for a lot more types of foods. So I see lack of recipes, especially different food types, meal types -different varieties of them, as a disappointment.
It would be nice if there was a forum such as this one just for people who have done this or that using Vitamix, and they posted the recipe--everything, not just I made such & such, but all the steps included as with any recipe.

Yeah, I agree about the recipes ideas...especially since I lost my Vitamix binder/booklet/manual which had a ton of recipes/ideas..... maybe I could contact the company to get another..... but I like the Vitamix recipe swap idea...Maybe it could have its own recipe category?
just sayin... the peanut butter recipe in the vitamix book is awesome.
To add to cooked rice & chopped apples which then were to bake in oven--Instead of adding apple juice concentrate (the recipe's request), I pureed an apple, along with water, 1 tb honey & cinnamon. It was terrific to be able to do that & my boys loved it--healthy, easy, plus they LIKED it. Hooray.

I'd like that a lot! Can we create a Vitamix recipes category on this website? Meaning the specific steps & exact measures, such as 1 cup, 1 tsp, etc--not just I threw in this, that & that, but the exact recipes that people have made themselves & use successfully. It'd definitely be a big help for me to have a Vitamix recipes category. How do you do that? Do you have to make a request to administration, or someone like that?
I purchased a Vitamix in March 2008. I LOVE IT!!!! :)>>> :)>>> :)>>>
A very good recipe is Roma Tomato Soup con Avocado per ani Phyo.
2 servings
2 roma tomatoes, quartered
1 Tbsp red miso, unpasterized
1/2 garlic
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 1/2 cups water
Topping
1/2 Avocado, diced
1 roma tomato, diced
Place all ingredients in blender. Turn speed to five. Blen until smooth
To serve, pour soup into two bowls. Top with toppings.
MMMMM MMMM ;)b

You could email admin (Yvette-- she's really nice) and ask her...
Ditto on that request for the Vitamix recipe category! :agree?:
About asking for a Vitamix recipe category---I've never e-mailed admin before. Would one of you feel comfortable requesting admin (Yvette) regarding this? Dalida, would you mind asking?
I don't know how to e-mail them. When I click on admin--it's to report complaints, not requests.
It'd be a great one to add to I think.

As far as i know, you could email with any kinds of concerns, even a request like this I think ;)
*cough*, too late, I'm here! Sounds like a good idea, but I'll run it by Vita-mix Corporation to be of the safe side (trademark issues, etc, etc.) I'll post here when I find something out.

thanks! that sounds great!!!!
It's official - we can have a "Recipes using the Vita-Mix Machine" category. (The title "Vita-Mix Recipes", while short and sweet, implied that the recipes were created by Vita-Mix Corp.) Here's a link to the new category: http://vegweb.com/index.php?board=770.0
Thanks for the suggestion!
Yvette
whoah!! awesome yvette!! thanks so much!
Thank You!! This is a SUPER help-to have this category added!!! :) :)
Thanks Yvette!
Is it a good idea to post that this new Vitamix site for recipes is now on the forum? Would that be appropriate, plus helpful because it informs people, who might want to post recipes. If so, where would be a good place to share about the new Vitamix category. Thanks.
Wow! I just made the peanut butter ice cream recipe found in the Vitamix recipe binder and it is INCREDIBLE! I subbed soymilk for the milk and I added a tablespoon or two of cocoa powder and then a bunch of chocolate chips at the very end. Totally delicious.
I made my first green smoothie this morning. Blueberries, kale, spinach, cucumber and a splash of orange juice. Was pretty good and blended up so fast and well. Next time I might add apple or peach slices.
