I already started making this recipie: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=6671.0
and I have no baking soda....
What can I do to fix this? Is there a substitute? Can I use more baking powder?
Help! ASAP
After consulting wiki, all I could figure out is that you shouldn't substitute it with baking powder, it's a quarter as strong and reacts with the baking soda to have effect.
And foodnetwork said there are no substitutes for baking soda.
I'm a debbie downer. :-\
oh no!!!! what should I do :(
if i just make them anyways...will they be flat?
i know vinegar will react with the baking powder to create a leavening effect. so maybe 1/2 to 3/4 tsp of a sweet vinegar (apple cider) would help so they don't turn out flat? just a guess, no promises...
my mom is getting me some baking soda
lets just say my last few recipies turned out messed up becuase I tried to make them gluten free and such so my mom said "can't I just buy you a mix"
ugh who would want a mix if you can make it your self
oh well
hmmh. For that tiny amount of baking soda, I'd have just used more baking powder. I've done that before with lots of recipes, and they've always turned out just fine.
ah well, at least now you have the right stuff!
Yea, I've always added more baking powder if it's a tiny amount of baking soda. It's always worked fine for me.
