SO HOW'D IT GO?

I just made this again for 2 nonvegan processed food junkies.  They devoured it.

This is a really good, super quick recipe for a great tasting french toast. I've made this too many times to count for myself and my boyfriend, and most recently my parents who are not vegan, and they LOVED IT!  :)

Wow, what a treat! ;)
Crispy on the outside and gewy on the inside... just like it should be.
Yum!

I'm addicted! I used a small amount of vanilla with regular soymilk, and it turned out great. Tastes just like the french toast I remember! THANKS!

Finally!!!!!  A vegan french toast that works!

I have tried probably 5 times now and each time it is soggy and nasty.  But this time it worked and is delicious!  I followed the suggestions by the reviewers here.

Here is what I did, I made the batter according to the recipe here.  Using bread from the "outradiously big easy bread" recipe that I made in the bread machine a few days go, I cut 1" thick slices, seriously, like 1" thick!  I dipped the pieces of bread in the batter but didn't let it soak in it, only for a second or two per side.  I then put the bread into a pre-warmed (set to low-med heat) cast iron skillet (well seasoned) sprayed with cooking spray.  I let it sit there and it took longer then regular frech toast.  I flipped it until both sides were golden, and then took out.

I wasn't soggy at all, it was perfect, exactly like regular frech toast...better even becuase regular french toast tends to be a bit soggy.  I put margarine on it, and ate it swimming in maple syrup...OMG so good!  Thank you thank you.  I had just about given up on vegan french toast, but I thought I would give it one last shot.

Thick bread slices is the key I think!

I was leery of trying this recipe because I've tried a couple others unsuccessfully.  This one was great!  I did cook them between medium and low which kept them from being soggy.  I only used 1/2 tsp. sugar as we were putting syrup on them.  Will make these again and again!

Thanks for this base recipe.  I quarter it & make breakfast just for me because my husband likes granola, not French toast for breakfast.  I add the following: a little ener-g egg replacer, a little vanilla, a little almond extract, a few sprinkles of cloves & Jamaican allspice.  Also I prefer agave nectar or maple syrup instead of sugar, but I don't know that it needs either since I'm going to put those on top :)  The first time I used 100% whole wheat bread slices (yum) & this time I'm using sourdough since that's all I have.

This was great. It was nice to have French Toast again! I used 1 Tbsp. of whole wheat flour and 1 Tbsp. of ground flax, 1 cup of vanilla flavored almond milk, dash cinnamon, whole wheat bread and no sugar. I used other people's advice and stuck the french toast in the toaster oven to finish cooking it. Served it with sliced bannanas. Yummy!
