Unorthodox Dahl

What you need:

2 cups lentils
6 cups water
1/2 teaspoon each: mustard seed
turmeric
cumin seed
2 smallish onions, minced, or one large.Depends on your taste.
12 cloves garlic, minced
2 carrots, diced
1 zucchini, diced
1/2 head cauliflower, diced
about 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper

What you do:

Cook the lentils in the water with all the spices save the mustard seed, for about forty minutes. Saute the garlic and onions and mustard seed for about five minutes. Dump the lentils and spices into that, add the veggies, and simmer about fifteen minutes. Serve over rice (if you live in coastal California, you're probably near a Trader Joes. Try their California Rice Trilogy of wild, brown, and brown basmati. Its great with this). It may not look like much, but its filling and its--in my opinion--awesome. You may want to add more salt. I actually found the spice mixture on this site, but played with water and veggies until I got something more like a nutritionally balanced meal.
