Tempeh Lettuce Tomato TLT

What you need:

6 tablespoons tamari soy sauce
5 drops liquid smoke
1/2 package (about 4 ounces) tempeh
olive oil spray
1 small tomato, sliced
vegan mayonnaise, to taste
4 slices bread
lettuce, to serve
salt and pepper, to taste

What you do:

1. Mix together tamari and liquid smoke in a small bowl.
2. Put tempeh in tamari mixture, turning every 5 minutes for 15 minutes. You may want to pierce tempeh with a fork all over to help absorption.
3. Slice tempeh into 1/4" slices and fry with olive oil spray until browned. Have with your favorite vegan bread, vegan mayo, tomato and lettuce. Salt and pepper, to taste.

This was very good!  I am gluten-free so instead of bread i rolled it with vegan cheese, veganaise, and tomato in a large romaine leaf.
The recipe was almost a 5 except it is a little salty and next time i would prefer a little more "smoke."
As my first time cooking with tempeh, i am very happy.  i have avoided it for years but will definitely add it to my weekly grocery list now.

it comes in a bottle, you can find it in your normal grocery store.  Look next to the BBQ stuff or in the spice isle.  Pretty much it is just really concentrated smokey flavor (so be careful not to use too much).  i dont care for it myself, so when i make this recipe i just use a vegan smoked BBQ sauce.  It works good for me!

What is liquid smoke and where do you get it? I've never seen it at grocery/health food stores. . .
