Tempeh Lettuce Tomato TLT

What you need:

6 tablespoons tamari soy sauce
5 drops liquid smoke
1/2 package (about 4 ounces) tempeh
olive oil spray
1 small tomato, sliced
vegan mayonnaise, to taste
4 slices bread
lettuce, to serve
salt and pepper, to taste

What you do:

1. Mix together tamari and liquid smoke in a small bowl.
2. Put tempeh in tamari mixture, turning every 5 minutes for 15 minutes. You may want to pierce tempeh with a fork all over to help absorption.
3. Slice tempeh into 1/4" slices and fry with olive oil spray until browned. Have with your favorite vegan bread, vegan mayo, tomato and lettuce. Salt and pepper, to taste.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

This recipe seems so easy to follow! I've been having a bit of difficulty finding tempeh recipes that are easy to follow.

I'll definitely be trying this with some tempeh I purchased.  :)>>>

Thank you for posting!

Love the pictures on this too, cuz I LOVE a juicy burger.

I have been developing a taste for nutritional yeast, and when making tofu and tempeh bacon, it's the liquid smoke, braggs, and nutritional yeast that  give it that smoky cheesy flavor.

I tried it with this basic tempeh burger recipe and it works great.  Kinda meaty, kinday baconany, kinda cheesy.

My husband even gives this 4 stars and he would rather eat meat.  ;)b  I sliced my tempeh and then marinated it, also added more liquid smoke and a tiny pinch of pepper.

This has been one of them! I added a very little bit of balsamic vinegar to the marinade.  ;)b

Thanks!!

very good  -  i only used 5 tbsp of soy sauce and still found i was able to marinate my entire package of tempeh.  i used spinach instead of lettuce and added some mashed avocado.  simple and satisfying - thanks!

Really tasty stuff. Chipotle mayo and red onion go great on this sandwich.

I really enjoyed this!  I added lots of vegan mayo and two tomatoes.  Yum!

These TLTs are excellent!  Instead of frying the tempeh though I baked it at 350 for about 15 minutes or until brown.  So very good!  This was the first time I've ever used tempeh and was very impressed.  Defiantly using this recipe again!
