Really Good Vegan Raisin Scones

What you need:

2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon turbinado sugar
1/4 cup margarine, softened
1/2 cup raisins
3/4-1 cup nondairy milk

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in margarine until crumbles form.
2. Stir in milk and raisins. Drop a spoonful (or make them into cute shapes, like the hearts I made this morning) onto an ungreased baking sheet.
3. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until just brown on top.
Source of recipe: I adapted these from a biscuit recipe on this website; I am sure one could play with the spices/ flavorings here. Please let me know how they turn out!

Is this meant to be sweet? Mine came out totally unsweet. I'm confused by it. Ive made scones in the past and I remember them being sweet...

Not all scones are sweet as they are meant to be topped with a sweetener, such as jam or a glaze as mentioned by previous posters.

I added a half cup of chopped pecans to the raisins, as well as some cinnamon and nutmeg.  Super easy.  Great texture.

These are simply snazzerific! I depend on a good dose of coffee in the mornings and it was a lovely treat to have my mug accompanied by a scone~ I did not have any raisins so I added half a can of pumpkin (it was time to use it up),a teaspoon of vanilla and a few dashes of cloves and cinnamon. I realize I tampered with this (apologies all around) but I have not found a scone recipe that works as well as this one - The result was full and fluffy bits of deliciousness. Kudos~

Thank you, this recipe was fab!  I used 3 tbsp of vegan sugar and instead of raisins, I used pre-soaked (1 hr) goji berries.  I put 1/2 cup of dried gojis in water and let those sit for a while to soften.

I also made the dough into a pizza shape and cut the scones into triangles.

Recipe was awesome and I'm making these again!  Thank you! :)>>>

These are delicious. I split the recipe in half and did half with raisins, and the other half with cranberries and vanilla as suggested above (used 1/2 teaspoon vanilla for half batch). I also used half white and half wheat flour, and can't imagine them any other way. They're exactly sweet enough and exactly salty enough. I was surprised at how quick and easy they were, and my boyfriend loved them so much they barely lasted a day! Thanks for the recipe, I'll definitely be making these again and again.

As I am sitting here eating one of the scones with my cup of coffee, listening to the sound of rain hit my roof, I am in a state of bliss.
I split the recipe in half to make half raisin scones and half with chocolate chips.  I must say that although the traditional raisin scones are quite scrumptious, the chocolate chip scones are divine!  And that is coming from someone who is not the biggest fan of chocolate.
These were amazingly easy to make, and as a college student that makes me happy in so many ways!
Thanks for the amazing recipe that will be put to use numerous times in the near future :)

I modified it a bit but used this as a basis for some really nice scones. Instead of sugar I used two spoons of date syrup and I added about 1 and a half tablespoon of cinnamon, a handfull of sesame seeds and a handfull of sunflowerseeds. Turned out lovely, great with blackberry jam.

Love them! And they're good for you! I changed it a little, using cherry craisins instead of raisins and added cinnamon. I'll have to remember to add flax seed next time. :P Hmm...wonder about adding honey... Lavender and honey scones......

These were very nice! The best part was how quick and easy they were to make. The scones taste very similar as to those I used to buy before I was Vegan  :)
