Nutritional Yeast Queso Sauce

What you need:

1/4 cup nutritional yeast
1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
dash garlic powder
1 cup water
2 tablespoons margarine
1 1/2 cups salsa or 1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes and peppers
tortilla chips, to serve

What you do:

1. In a saucepan combine dry ingredients (nutritional yeast, flour, paprika, salt, and garlic powder).
2. Whisk in water. Continue to whisk constantly over medium heat until mixture is thick and bubbly. Remove from heat.
3. Stir in margarine until melted, then stir in salsa. Return to low heat and cook just long enough for salsa to heat.
4. Pour over chips and eat like nachos or use as a dip.
Remember to always whisk it!
Source of recipe: I got this recipe from a friend a couple of years ago and it is by far the best vegan queso I have ever had. Add this to any and all Tex-Mex that you make or use as a spread on sandwiches.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I didn't have any tomatoes and I only had about one cup of salsa so I used taco sauce for the rest and it was still a hit. I served it over black bean patties and used as a dip for onion rings. Thanks!  ;)b

This was really good! Extreamly easy and my boyfriend didnt believe me that it was vegan! I added some fresh chopped onion, tomato and cilantro to give it a kick and add some extra chuck. I will definitley be making this again!

WOW! Dumped a can of pinto beans into this, added some cumin and cilantro and poured it over some Guiltless Gourmet Tortilla Chips. Served it to my "meat lover" husband, who went crazy over it! :)>>>

Just found another use for this versatile recipe; last night I made the spicy black bean burger recipe from this site and smothered them in this sauce before serving. They were excellent!

Has anyone made this recipe and served it in a crockpot? Most people make the traditional cheese queso and keep it warm for dipping in a small crockpot. I was just wondering if anyone has tried this before I attempt to take it to a party.

It sounds like it would work! I'd give it an occasional stir though, just to keep a  skin from forming.

I love this!  I make this recipe all the time - even the omnis love it!  I add a bit of onion powder to mine and use a nice, chunky salsa.  This is one of those things I don't like to share  ^-^

:D My husband thought this was made with real cheese! THIS IS THE ONE! I've never been so happy with vegan cheese! I must say though, I did a little less than 14 cup flour and filled it to the 1/4 mark with arrowroot, 2 tbs. Also I added a good bit of chili powder and jalepenos. Later I mixed it with leftover beans-Yum!

I put this on top of some mini burrito/enchiladas and it was fantastic!!  I was pleasantly surprised, this was the first cheeze sauce I've made so I wasn't expecting much, but it was delicious!
