Mushroom Gravy

What you need:

1/2 cup dried mushrooms, chopped into small pieces
1/2 cup boiling water
1 1/2 tablespoons margarine
1 small onion, diced
2 tablespoons flour
1 cup strong broth

What you do:

1. Hydrate your chopped mushrooms with the boiling water. Cover and let sit for 10 minutes. Melt margarine in a small-medium saucepan over medium heat.
2. Sauté the onion lightly. Dont brown too much. Add the flour, and stir constantly with a wooden spoon until frothy. Do not let it burn! Add the mushrooms and their liquid and your vegetable broth.
3. Cook over medium heat to a boil, stirring constantly. After it comes to a boil, turn the heat down a bit and let thicken.

I agree, Amazing!  I didn't have dehydrated mushrooms.  I used a combination of fresh button, shitake, crimini, and portabella.  I also added salt and fresh ground pepper.  I make my own veggie stock out of veggie scraps that I save in the freezer so every time is just a little different but always delicious.

this was nice. used half dried, half fresh mushrooms

I made this, but kind of just winged it on the amounts for ingredients , and i added some minced garlic too... it was amazing. and then i used a little of it to saute some Gardein beefless tips :)

Like ladywyntir, I've been making potatoes a few times a week but never making gravy for it. The gravy was phenomenally delicious. I will absolutely be making it again.

it never occurred to me to make gravy... all this time...!

this was the easiest, most delicious recipe for gravy.  thanks for reminding me what eating mashed potatoes is REALLY about  ^______^

I used large onion chunks and fresh baby bella mushrooms.  simply delicious!
