Kidney Bean Burger

What you need:

kidney beans, drained and rinsed well
1 onion
2 garlic cloves
3/4 cup bread crumbs
1/8 cup flour
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
egg replacer (such as Ener-G)
1/2 teaspoon oregano
salt to taste (I use 1 teaspoon)

What you do:

I used two, 200 gram cans of kidney beans. I don't know the English measurements though. Perhaps 16 oz.?
Preheat the oven to 220 Celsius (or about 425 F).
In a food processor, roughly chop garlic and onion. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend well. I like my burgers fairly chunky so after pulsing the processor a few times, I went in with my hands and mixed the ingredients. It preserves the texture and you get dirty which makes cooking so much more fun.
Spray a bit of oil on a pan and form patties (6-8). Bake for about 10-15 minutes on each side.
Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

These were good.  I omitted the bread crumbs b/c i didn't leave out my bread long enough and used ketchup instead of tomatoe paste.  But they turned out really good and the cayenne gives them a nice little kick.

This sounds really good.  I've been wanting recipes for kidney beans since the only thing I tend to use them for is chili.  I think I'll take the last poster's advice and pan fry them.  It's too hot down here in SA to turn the oven on.

I really liked this recipe.  I didn't bake it because I didn't want to turn on the oven (we don't have air conditioning!), so I cooked it in a dry, nonstick pan.  It was still a little undercooked in the middle b the time the outside was browned, but it was still very good.  We will be having this again for sure!

I left out the cayenne pepper and subbed tomato sause for the tomato paste- these were fantastic!
They were very moist before I baked them, so I flattened them out quite a bit and they came out crunchy (but a little too dry) on the outside and moist on the inside.

I made these burgers last night, they came out good, a little dry(next time I will cook them less, because the burgers are very moist before you bake them.) Also next time I will use a sweet onion. I will def. make them again.

Love this recipe. Doubled recipe and did not have cayenne pepper, but instead used chili pepper. My family is asking for this again already (and that includes my picky 3.5 year old). Will try adding tofu next time.
